Featured Supplier: Hatastic – Alternative Headpieces for Bride and Bridal Party

Today I’m very pleased to be showing you the work of Chloe Haywood from Hatastic. Chloe creates the most amazing headpieces and hair accessories that are just that little bit different.

I asked Chloe a few questions about her work and she explain a bit more about what Hatastic is all about.

So tell me more about Hatastic.
‘Hatastic is all about reusing and upcycling and recreating what other people might call rubbish, into something quite different and beautiful.
Inevitably, the pieces can sometimes come out quite quirky, which is probably down to my sense of humour, however, I do keep my most treasured and gorgeous vintage remnants, beads and sequins for my bespoke bridal pieces.’

How did it all start?
‘I’ve always made what I can’t find in the shops (invariably as I have quite unusual ideas) so making headpieces came about when I couldn’t find that cream headpiece to go with my vintage BIBA dress for a very special wedding. All cream headpieces were made for brides plus my frock was 70s and I didn’t want to wear a 70s hat in case I looked like I was going in fancy dress!
So I made it from what I could find at home, and went on to make another 5 more (it was a busy year for weddings!) I was then commissioned to make a headpiece for a bride and her two bridesmaids…thus in March 2009 Hatastic! was born.’

have you exhibited anywhere yet?
‘I debuted my first collection called ‘Recreation’ (a collection of pieces made from old games) at Alternative Fashion Week 2010 and also took part in Brighton Fashion Week this year. I have also been lucky enough to see my pieces featured in the press such as OK Magazine and The Times and I have a piece that will be seen on BBCs Scene Stealers this July.’

What sort of thing can you do for weddings?
‘I have also made a few bespoke pieces for the bridal party too. For one wedding I made both the mother of the bride and mother of the grooms headpieces. The great thing about choosing Hatastic! for your headwear, is that I can carry a theme throughout all the bridal party headpieces plus make them individual to the person taking into account their hairstyle, likes and dislikes.’

Where can people buy your wonderful creations?
‘I have a small collection of bridal pieces which can be purchased on my online shop www.hatastic.folksy.com however, brides tend to want to have something made bespoke to suit their dresses/outfits which I really love doing.
Pieces range from £35 to £150 depending on the size and complexity of the piece and I also make veils (any design/style) which are separate to the piece so they can be removed for the reception, ready for that bride to let her hair down!’

Elegant, witty and timeless – everything a hat (and a woman) should be! Bespoke service also so COMMISSIONS WELCOME!
