Jesús and Luisa’s Beautiful Outdoor Wedding in Sicily Inspired by Nature by Deborah Lo Castro

Happy Friday everyone, and how are you all? If you are like me you have been juggling half term with work this week and with this terrible weather it hasn’t been easy! I am off today with Dexter and our day involves shopping, the Cinema, indoor rock climbing and then dinner out as a family. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m working tomorrow while Nik has Dexter and then we are meeting up with friends on Sunday. What about you? I hope you have something fun, or relaxing (or both) planned, whether it be wedding related or not. Today I am taking you off to Sicily for the gorgeous wedding of Luisa and Jesús. They chose Sicily as this is where Luisa is from. In fact, the church they are married in is the same church she used to go to with her mum when she was a baby, how cute?! They took inspiration from nature and filled their day with minimal decor and let the location do the talking. Big thanks to Deborah Lo Castro for capturing the day for us.

A wedding day the elegant enough to be beautiful, and the light/casual enough to be fun. The harmony between the guests and the participation of everyone at every moment of the wedding made this day exciting, full of light and serenity.

uisa and Jesús were married on 29th June 2019 at Santa Venera al Pozzo Church (Aci Catena) and Reception at Il Faro Capomulini. ‘We decide to marry in Sicily because Luisa is from Sicily and she is in love with this island for its colours and scents. We chose the little church where Luisa used to go with her mom when she was a baby. This church is surrounded by nature and is built with typical Sicilian stones. We had 65 guests, It took 20 days to think about the plan and have a list of things to do. And less than 8 months to organize it.’

How they met
We met at “Camino de Santiago” in summer 2015. We felt in love in 1 day, and walked together 1 month. After 3 years Jesus asked Luisa to merry him.

The proposal
It was Luisa’s 30° birthday. Jesus asked, in secret, his father and mother for permission (to respect the Sicilian tradition). And on the 16th of August, he knelt in front of the guests, in a trembling voice, to ask her to marry him.

How did you allocate your budget?
We decided to dedicate our budget mainly to 3 things: – the restaurant, to enjoy the beautiful Sicilian landscape and its renowned culinary tradition.
– the decoration, Luisa believes that every event must have a style and an order.
– the photo shoot, to relive that day whenever we wish.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged for the restaurant, its food and drinks (Spanish people love beer and sangria). We tried to save on all other things. And we managed to show that the budget does not always make a difference. We think that we haven’t spent a lot for our wedding.

How did you choose your photographer?
A friend of Luisa suggested the photographer to her. So we started to follow Deborah Lo Castro on instagram, facebook etc. We discovered that she is not only a photographer, she is a photo-reporter. She is capable of reading spaces and capturing moments.

The dress
The dress by Rembo Styling model ‘Grace a Toy’. The earrings designed by the bride, inspired by ivy leaves.

The suit and bridesmaids
Groom suites by Hugo Boss. The 2 bridesmaids did not listen to the bride’s suggestions. They are too different from each other.

Theme or colour scheme
Generally neutral colours and materials (like jute). Nature did the rest.

Flowers
Chamomiles and ivy

Decoration
It was a mix of country, bohemian and nature. Raw materials, white starfish and more ivy.

Food
Typical Sicilian food and vegetarian options.

Wedding cake
It was a “naked cake” decorated with flowers and fresh fruit.

Entertainment
A traditional Sicilian folk band “Mizzica Mizzica and friends”

Who supplied the stationery?
Laura Sorbello, architect and bride’s best friend.

Special moments
When we met in front of the altar of the church. And when we got on the top of the ancient lighthouse of the restaurant and, from above, we saw the success of our wedding party.

Advice for other couples?
Don’t get obsessed with the organization. Prefer simplicity. Establish a budget that you can afford without too much effort. For the wedding day we recommend that you clear your mind, remain present and conscious at all times. Observe the small gestures of each guest. Be yourself. Let go your emotions without shame.

Biggest surprise
That time is not enough and understand that love makes everything magical.
