Charli and Edd’s North Yorkshire ‘Festival in a Forest’ Fun Filled Wedding by Matt Thompson Photography

Happy Friday everyone, I hope you have all had a marvelous week? I don’t know about you but this week seems to have gone on forever! Maybe it’s because I’m super excited for the weekend! We are off to Alton Towers first thing tomorrow morning for the weekend, as the 2nd part of Dexter’s birthday celebrations. We are staying at the Splash Landings hotel, so it should be a great weekend. What about you? Have you got any weddings to go to? Today I am sharing the super laid back wedding of Charli and Edd who got married in Dalby Forest. They held their legal wedding first in the visitors centre and then their hand fasting ceremony straight after in the forest itself. What followed was one of the most laid back fun wedding parties I have seen for a while. A festival theme, with minimal fuss, a lot of outdoor games, fun and a whole lot of laughter. The day was captured by Matt Thompson Photography.

Absolutely perfect, relaxed, fun and unseasonably warm. Just an amazing day.

Charli and Edd were married on the 5th May 2018 at Dalby Forest with around 120 guests, it took just 6 months to plan.

How they met
We met through a mutual friend. We have been ‘officially’ together just over 2 ½ years.

The proposal
Whilst on a night out at a local metal club for a friends birthday, in the middle of the dance floor, Edd got on one knee (neither of us could hear each other). I thought he was joking and then for 3 miles home when I realised it was real.

How did you allocate your budget?
Edd sold his house

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on the food (epic BBQ) and the photographer (Matt) gave us an amazing deal. We also handmade all table decorations.

How did you choose your photographer?
He was recommended by another photographer and we are so please he was.

The dress
Eeeerrm, no ideas who the dress was made by, it was called ‘esme’ though. All jewellery, veil and belt, not sure. And shoes from New Look that I’ve had for years. And I had converse from 10 years ago!

Suit and bridesmaids
Didn’t have a suit, Edd wore DC Deck shoes, Bridesmaid dress from Lipsy I think (I’m not great with ‘fashion’)

Theme or colour scheme
Theme was festival in a forest and colour scheme was navy. Wedfest!

Wild flowers and gypsophila headdress to cover my veil comb.

Bunting (lots of), wooden logs, wood effect candles, personalised bottles with live gypsophila in crested with wedfest.

Beef! BBE food for the main meal, buffet after the first ceremony. No set meals, table plan, speeches or wedding cake.

Welly wanging, sack race, ‘sin bin’, sounders, ball games, was meant to have tug of war, but we refused to be untied after the handfast.

Who supplied the stationery?
Craig Grew personally designed our invites, apart from that no other stationery.

Personal touches
Custom made glass bottles. All décor was personalised or hand made

Special moments
Getting married twice. We had a legal ceremony in the visitors centre and a handfast ceremony in the forest. Having my step son (Edd’s son) be best man and pass us our rings. Being tied together for 6 and ½ hours, smashing the record. The only reason we were untied was for the daddy-daughter dance.

Advice for other couples?
Do it your own way. Don’t try to appease other people. Its your day!

Biggest surprise
The weather was amazing and a love swing hung from the trees.

I’m a relaxed, natural documentary wedding photographer based in Lower Cumberworth, Huddersfield. I hate people looking and smiling at the camera and couples being forced to touch fore heads and caress each others faces. What I capture is 100% each couples indivuals personality, nothing is forced.
