Molly and Jack's Elegant and Chic Intimate Devon Wedding by Angel Wade Photography

Happy Friday everyone, I hope you are fit, well and have had a happy week? It’s been a busy one here, I’m still getting used to my new working schedule with Dexter at school, the days sure go quickly when you have to finish at 3pm! What are you up to this weekend? Do you have anything wedding related to look forward to? I have a few jobs to get done tomorrow and then Sunday we are all going out for the day and meeting up with Nik’s sister and Dexter’s cousins, should be a lovely day!
On with today’s wedding and it sees us travel to beautiful Devon for the enchanting wedding of Molly and Jack. They chose an intimate number of 19 for their ceremony and then 35 for their evening reception. They kept the whole day elegant, simple and timelessly beautiful. Molly wore not one but 2 dresses, both of them lovely. And may I just say that cake! I LOVE the cake! Big thanks to Angel Wade Photography for the lovely images.

It was the most perfect way we could have imagined marrying each other and bringing our families together. A day utterly filled with love and great people; it was so completely suited to us and our relationship.

Molly and Jack were married on Friday 13^th July 2018, the ceremony was held in St. Eustachius Church, Tavistock. Reception was held at Hotel Endsleigh, Milton Abbot in Devon. ‘Our church was chosen because Jack’s gran got married there 50 years ago, and it has been special in our hearts ever since we got together. It is a beautiful church. We chose Hotel Endsleigh because of the size was perfect for us, not too big, and the staff were excellent – we were supported every step of the way. Stepping into Hotel Endsleigh felt like stepping into another country, like an Italian garden – helped by the fact we had great weather on the day too! We had 19 guests in the day, 35 in the evening. We got engaged in 2016, so we were planning for 2 years.’

How they met
We met through school friends, when we were 17, and instantly stuck together. Jack got very drunk, told me he wanted to marry and have children with me the second time I met him! Obviously, he did something right because here we are, 5 years later. We have grown from kids to adults together and experienced everything in between.

The proposal
Jack kept it a complete secret the whole time – I had no idea! He told me to pack a bag, and that we were going on the date. We drove to Looe, where we walked along the beach, and he got down on one knee. He had placed candles and fairy lights in a circle all around us. Obviously, I said a huge yes and people on the beach cheered and applauded! He led me to my favourite restaurant afterwards and arranged for both of our families to celebrate there with us. It was a wonderful evening. We stayed in a beach front hotel for the night.

How did you allocate your budget?
We didn’t have a massive budget, as we were both students when saving for the wedding. We just knew we wanted a small, chilled out day that wasn’t too formal. Luckily, we are the kind of people that don’t fall into some of the material traps of wedding planning! The day was about us and our relationship, not about any fancy extras that cost lots of money. We were very strict with our spending.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on the venue (which included the food) as this was one of the most important things for us. The atmosphere and running of the day was the thing we wanted to prioritise, so we spent the most money making sure this was right. Luckily, we are both crafty people! I did all the stationary and decorative bits (signs, confetti etc.) myself and Jack is a musician, so he was in charge of the music. This saved us an awful lot of money!

How did you choose your photographer?
Photography was so important to us, and we knew it needed to be right. We came across our photographer by chance on Facebook, and she had an offer on. She was pretty new, but we clicked immediately with her and I knew she was the right photographer for us.

The dress
My dress is by Justin Alexander; I wore simple pearl earrings by Jersey Pearl, and my shoes were by Jenny Packham. The bracelets I wore on the day were a present from Jack and a freshwater pearl bracelet that belonged to Jack’s grandma before she passed – this was my something old. I also changed into a short, 60’s inspired wedding dress in the evening, which I purchased from Quiz.

The suit and bridesmaids
The suits were purchased from Next, and the bridesmaid’s dresses were purchased from ASOS.

Theme or colour scheme
We didn’t have a set theme, but we had a colour preference. The colours we stayed with were natural colours, dusty pinks, very pale pinks, sage greens, and occasionally a pop of gold.

Flowers
The boys all had light pink rose buttonholes, the mums and grandma had ivory freesias and mine and the bridesmaid’s bouquets were filled with pale pink roses, peonies and other flowers and green foliage. They were hand tied and finished with a hand dyed pink ribbon on each.

Decoration
We decorated the venue ourselves, with the help of my family. We had a few confetti balloons, ‘Just Married’ banners, a card box etc. but luckily, we didn’t need to do too much to decorate such a beautiful venue. The main décor came from the venue itself and the flowers. We had lanterns, candles and bouquets of flowers everywhere, it really made it a gorgeous atmosphere. We also had champagne sequin table runners supplied by The Pretty Accessory.

Food
The starter was a salad of poached peach, dandelion, hazelnut and Treviso.
The main was steak, fondant potatoes and fine green beans with peppercorn sauce. Jack and I both lead a mainly plant-based lifestyle, so we had a tomato garlic and artichoke pasta instead.
The dessert was a summer berry jelly, shortbread and fruit.

Wedding cake
The wedding cake had two layers, the bottom was a vanilla and jam Victoria style cake, and the top was flavoured with chocolate. It was traditionally iced with ivory icing, and gold foil used to decorate, along with some of the same fresh flowers as my bouquet.

Entertainment
We didn’t have formal entertainment, just a playlist we created and a game of Mr. and Mrs. later on in the night. We also had a bonfire in the courtyard that everyone sat and roasted marshmallows over. The night ended with everyone doing sparklers and creating a sparkler tunnel for us to walk under.

Who supplied the stationery?
We bought the bare bones of the stationary in Hobbycraft, but I designed and made the extras like Menus, signs and confetti.

Special moments
Jack’s favourite moment was the kiss in the church, and my most exciting moment was walking up the aisle with my dad, to my husband. However, I think my favourite moment was getting in the wedding car with my new husband and processing the thing that just happened.

Advice for other couples
Wear your shoes in before your big day! I suffered with my beautiful wedding shoes as they gave me horrible blisters throughout the day – it was very painful! Otherwise, always take a moment with your new husband or wife. They day goes so fast, you’ll wish you spent more time having a moment with your new spouse.

Biggest surprise
The biggest surprise for me was how calm I was, which was amazing because I did 5 peoples makeup on that morning (as I am a makeup artist)! The videographer called me the calmest bride he had ever met! I thought I would be frantic, but it just felt so right, like it was meant to be. Jack says that he was blown away by the amount of support we received from our family.
