Yay for Friday and Happy (nearly) Bank holiday weekend to you all. I hope you have had a good week? What are your plans for the bank holiday, are you making the most of the time off? Anything wedding related? Today I am off with Dexter for a fun day together, working tomorrow, then Sunday we are all off for a family day together which will be lovely. Today I have the lovely Rebecca and Daniel who are sharing their Northamptonshire wedding with us all. They chose a relaxed farm venue, close to their home, which made the day that much more personal. They filled the ceremony and reception area with the most gorgeous wild flowers with accents of cornflower blue. The whole day is chilled, fun and filled with so much love, all captured perfectly by Kathryn Edwards Photography.
Rebecca and Daniel were married on 16th June 2018 at Crockwell Farm, Eydon in Northamptonshire. ‘We are both from the East Midlands, so we wanted to get married somewhere that was near our family and friends. Dan found the venue online and Bex went to take a look at it one Friday. She realised that we had been there a year before, to walk the dogs right through the middle of the farm. We didn’t realise it was a wedding venue at that time! We had 86 guests for the day and100 for the evening, on and off it took a year to plan, mainly off!’
How they met
We met in 2012 at Bestival, a festival on the Isle of Wight. Our groups of friends camped next to each other and we really got on. Bex had a robin hood hat which Dan stole claiming it was his because he was from Nottingham. Dan’s best man, Adam, got in touch with Rob da Bank (Bestival founder) and got Bex and Dan VIP tickets to go this year as a special surprise during the speeches.
Its not a hugely romantic story! Bex was in her pyjamas. It was on the morning of our 5th anniversary (of being boyfriend and girlfriend), and Dan planned to make a nice breakfast – perfect poached eggs, bucks fizz and even went out early in the morning to get flowers. Bex thought that the impending proposal was going to take place, so to throw her off the scent a bit, Dan made her do the washing up! Finally he popped the question and said something silly about making Bex lots of breakfasts.
How did you allocate your budget?
There wasn’t too much allocation. We do know that we went far over what we thought should have been a wedding budget! But it was worth every penny.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
The main (unnecessary) splurge was a 5ft custom-made neon David Bowie lightening bolt for the dance floor – it’s now in storage (at parents) until we move into a house with a dance floor! We saved by doing a lot ourselves, with help from our friends and family.
How did you choose your photographer?
It was a recommendation from Dan’s Sister Sarah, she plays at a lot of weddings and knew about Kathryn. We were lucky as originally she was booked for the date of our wedding but fortunately for us she became free again. She made us so relaxed and the photos are amazing.

The suit and bridesmaids
The suits were from Jennis and Warmann, a tailor in Dalston, London. Dan wanted something a bit different. The blue tweed was a perfect fit for the location.
Bridesmaids dresses were from Jenny Packham, Debenhams.
Theme or colour scheme
We wanted it to be quite natural. Bex was going for an English wild flower theme. Cornflower blue was the main colour
Bex really wanted locally sourced and home grown wild flowers. Stephanie at Me and My Bloomers grew some fantastic blooms. They were were the main decoration, including an amazing climbing rose which framed the alter in the orchard. The button holes were pretty sweet too!
Mostly the flowers, but Decorations by Laura put up the hanging lanterns in the barn.
We had asparagus and quails egg salad to start, then the meat eaters (Dan) had a traditional pork roast for main. Bex and the vegetarians had pea and mint risotto. And to finish we had lemon cheesecake with raspberries. The evening food was pizzas.
We had three layers of sponge cake with butter cream – lemon meringue, salted chocolate caramel and elderflower Victoria sponge.
During the ceremony and drinks reception Dan’s Sister player in her string quartet, with some special David Bowie arrangements.
Our Band in the evening was Pandoras Jukebox, a great cover band set up by one of Dan’s school friends.
Who supplied the stationery?
This was all designed and supplied through Dan’s sister-in-law – Susie Huson Designs
It felt like we did a lot! The main thing was a coaster, which doubled up as the name setting and favour. They were made from slices of oak and ash from trees near where Bex’s parents live. A lot of weekends were spent sanding them all by hand.

Advice for other couples
Relax. Enjoy every moment of the day. Take a time out together as soon as you can after the ceremony. Have a coffee at the wedding breakfast – we found it exhausting, but it is so worth it!
For most people it was probably the fireworks. Dan was the only person who knew about them! Or the choreographed first dance – which was stressful!
I am based in Nottingham, covering the East Midlands and beyond. Happy to travel for a good wedding! My style of photography is natural and relaxed. I like my couples to feel at ease with me, and I offer a complimentary engagement shoot with my package as standard. I find this really beneficial to both me, and my couple as we can get to know each other a bit before the wedding. It means I am not a complete stranger when I turn up to photograph the best bits of your day from beginning to end. This relationship is really important to me. I really want my couples to feel comfortable and I also make an effort to get on with family and friends throughout the day. I am not a photographer who stands on the sidelines. I like to get right in on the action! I love all styles with a leaning towards vintage, bohemian and quirky weddings.
