Brooke and Bear’s Gold, Burgundy and Navy Canadian Woodland Wedding by Agatha Rowland Photography

Happy Friday everyone, and welcome (nearly) to the weekend! I don’t know about you but this week has sped by! I don’t mind though as I am off on my holidays on Sunday, we have a week in Lanzarote planned, and I couldn’t be more excited! I am currently scheduling all the blog posts to go up while I’m away, so don’t worry you will still have lots of lovely weddings and articles to read while I’m enjoying the sunshine and hopefully a few cocktails! Today though I am taking you back to last Autumn, for the beautiful wedding of Brooke and Bear. The gorgeous couple married on their families land in a woodland clearing, with a stunning outdoor ceremony. It was followed by a super glam, homespun wedding reception with a striking colour scheme of gold, burgundy and navy. So much of the wedding was put together by friends and family, making it a real team effort, with so many cute DIY details and decoration. I just love how they have embraced the autumnal colours and added in their own twist of metallics to add an extra element of style and sophistication. The best day of our lives, surrounded by the love and laughter of our friends and family.

Brooke and Bear were married on 30th September 2017 at Wedlock’s Landing their familys property. We both wanted to get married in the woods and at a location that was sentimental to us. We were married on property passed down from generations. We had 150 guests and it took 9 months to plan.

How they met
We met at a bar downtown Toronto. We both had friends that worked together and met on the dance floor and have been together since. We have been together 5 years.

The proposal
We were at Bear’s cottage in Muskoka in early December.  After a lovely brunch that Bear made he suggested we go for a walk around the property, something we regularly do there in the winter.  During the walk Brooke headed immediately to the point by the water where we like to go just the two of us.  While sitting on the rocks looking out over the lake and having a conversation about life and our future together, Bear got down on one knee, took the ring box out from his coat and asked Brooke to marry him.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Saved on Décor and splurged on the band.

How did you choose your photographer?
Brooke is a commercial photographer therefore the photography was a very important aspect for her. But the decision was extremely simple in the end. A photographer she found online named Agatha Rowland took her breath away. And after a quick Skyping meeting with Agatha and her husband and videographer partner, we knew this duo was absolutely perfect for us. They were so discreet but also captured exactly how we felt that day. The images and video are something we will treasure forever and can’t thank them enough.

The dress

The suit and bridesmaids
Designer: Bright Black. Bridesmaids were given a colour palette and asked to pick whatever they like!

Dalias, thistles, succulents, cockscomb, eucalyptus, the list goes on and on…

Decoration 
Bears mother made a beautiful 5 foot burgundy wreath to hang behind us. We also collected interesting bottles and painted them gold to hold flowers and candles. The property was decorated with flower and vegetable gardens as well as the view of the Otonabee River.

Food
Chacuterie boards for cocktail hour. Buffet for dinner with roast beef, rainbow trout and Moroccan chicken.

Wedding cake
A raspberry lemon cake topped with figs and flowers and a topper by Light and Paper

Entertainment
Our dear friend Michael Cooper sang and played the banjo as we walked up and down the aisle. Bears sister Melody sang during the signing of the marriage certificate. Brooke’s sister Lauren and best friend Ashlee sang during cocktail hour. We also hired an incredible 60’s and 70’s classic rock cover band to play at our reception.

Personal touches
Everything.  We made all the centrepieces, which included painting the bottles, adding the flowers and arranging them on the tables.  Bear’s sister Melody made all the table numbers.  Bear’s brother-in-law Duane made some of the birch tree candleholders as well as our ring box. Bear’s mother made a five-foot burgundy wreath out of eucalyptus as well as all the favours, which were Bear’s Great Grandmother’s fruit relish.   Along with Brooke’s fathers help we cleared the forest area for the ceremony and created the aisle.  One of Brooke’s best friends, Kate of K MacKay Designs, made all the signage.  And one of Bear’s best friends, Scott, married us.

Special moments 
The ceremony. The moments of just the two of us with the photography and videography crew. The amount of love that everyone had all day long, not just for us but for each other as well. The speeches, the fireworks and the legendary dance party.

Advice for other couples 
Focus on the main reason why you are there, to marry each other.   That’s it that’s all that really matters.

Biggest surprise 
The weather, it was perfect.
