Today’s stunning wedding is a flower filled bonanza of beautiful blooms, and two gorgeous brides. Nina and Margaret fell in love with Maine early on in their relationship, so it seemed only natural that they get married there, right by the water. With the help of their wedding planner, Emily Elizabeth Events, they put together a stunning wedding, filled with the most amazing flowers and lots of farmers market chic details and decor. A stunning day that even features the family dog.
Nina and Margaret were married on 10th January in Newagen Seaside Inn Southport, ME. ‘We have always loved Maine and especially the coast, so the setting felt perfect. We also really wanted a place where all our family and friends could stay on site, so Newagen was great for that. We had 160 guests and the wedding took just a little over a year to plan.’
How they met
We met in middle school on a school Spanish class trip to Mexico. We got together in high school after being great friends for several years and have been together ever since.
The Proposal
There was no proposal! We both felt that it was important that we make the decision together, rather than having a big proposal, we just talked it through until we felt ready.
How did you allocate your budget?
We allocated a lot of money towards the venue at Newagen Seaside Inn, the flowers and the food. All well worth it! Also, our dresses were not cheap, but we loved them.
Where did you splurge and how did you save?
We splurged on the flowers and it was so worth it. We couldn’t have even imagined how beautiful they would be and how much they made the venue come together! We also splurged on inviting all our guests to the rehearsal dinner so that we could have everyone start the celebrations together. We saved on little things throughout like limiting the types of alcohol, not ordering a pre-made photo album, etc. All the little things do add up!
Why did you choose your photographer?
Our wedding planner, Emily Elizabeth Events, introduced us to the photographer and we loved her right away! We felt totally comfortable with Meredith Perdue and loved the balance of posed and spontaneous photos.
The Dresses
Nina’s dress by Sarah Jassir and Margaret’s dress by Steven Birnbaum Bridal. Nina’s shoes were from Anthropologie and Margaret’s from Converse. Accessories were also from Anthropologie.
Theme or colour scheme
Emily helped us create a vision that was based around “farmer’s market chic” and fall colors.
Flowers
The flowers were by Watershed Floral. They were very fall- full of deep colors and they were spectacular.
Decoration
Emily did all of the decorating for us!!
Food
We had a haddock, short rib and vegetarian dinner option.
Wedding Cake
It was from Portland Patisserie. We had 3 types – chocolate sea salt caramel, carrot cake and lemon blueberry and all 3 were delicious!
Entertainment
We had a DJ for dancing and an open mic portion where friends and family could share toasts.
Who supplied the stationery?
Nina’s best friend, Rachel Grobstein, is an artist and she designed the Save the Dates and the invitations for us. It was so personal and perfect for us!
Personal Touches
The rings were made from Nina’s mom’s wedding ring, which was split into two rings. We loved each having a part of the ring. The ceremony was very customised to us as well. It was based on the traditional Jewish 7 blessings, but we just used those themes and then had our closest family and friends share readings related to each theme. Margaret made our cake toppers based on our “spirit animals” and those were really special too!
Special Moments
The ceremony was such a highlight. We really had no idea how it would all come together and it felt so totally “us”. We loved it. Getting to hang out at the bonfire with our friends the night before the wedding was another highlight.
Advice for other couples
Hire Emily Elizabeth Events! We would never have been able to do it without a wedding planner.
Biggest Surprise
Our family and friends’ toasts were all surprises! We didn’t know exactly who would speak or what they would say, but they came together so well!
Lovely wedding :) Gorgeous couple. This is really sweet. Congratulations and best wishes to the couple!
