We are heading back to Devon today but this time for a beautiful intimate Devon beach wedding. Angus and Davina started off planning a big wedding with 150 guests, however they then changed their minds and decided that a simple intimate wedding was what they wanted and changed the guest list to just 7 people. The results are this beautiful bohemain beach wedding, which is totally laid back and informal but full of love and laughter. Liberty Pearl Photography have done a wonderful job at capturing the day. A wonderful example that you can have an amazing wedding day with little fuss and little stress and plan it all in just 3 day!
Davina and Angus were married on the 19th October 2016 at Arymer Cove, Devon. ‘We have spent many evenings swimming and having beach BBQ there, also I was baptised there so it is a very special place for us. We had just 7 guests and planned the wedding in 3 days!’
How they met
We met in France September 24th 2009 whilst surfing Vieux Beaucoup beach. We have known each other for 7 years and we have enjoyed many surfing adventures together!
The Proposal
Angus proposed to me at Mothecombe bay, we were paddle boarding up the river and stopped off on a private beach. He wrote ‘ Will you marry me?’ in the sand. It was beautiful!
How did you allocate your budget?
Initially we were going to have a big wedding with 150 guests. I therefore decided to get a custom made wedding dress by Michelle Ann May which was £1300 including my veil. However we did cancel our big wedding! Our biggest expense was my dress, the food for our Ayrmer Cover wedding cost no more than £100. So around £1500 in total including some flowers a bridesmaid dress, chinos/shirt and tie for my husband.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
My dress was the most expensive thing! If I had know the type of wedding we were actually going to have I would have spent far less. However my dress was so beautiful I have no regrets!
Why did you choose your photographer?
Amber is so talented we really wanted her to capture our day, as we had nearly no one attending we felt it was important to have beautiful shots for our family and friends who weren’t there. Amber is a good friend of ours, she very kindly offered to take photos as a gift which we are so grateful for!
The Dress
Dress and Veil were by Michelle Ann May (Modbury,Devon) shoes were from Monsoon £25!
The Suit
Angus’s jacket was his fathers, original Tweed Jacket. His Chinos, shirt and tie were from Next. My bridesmaids dress was from ASOS
Theme or Colour Scheme
No theme really just simplicity I guess. I love baby’s breath so we had some of that!
Decoration
Stones from the beach, a few signs made by my mother in law, they were chalkboard hanging hearts!
Food
We had a delicious BBQ
Wedding Cake
A delicious caramel slice!
Entertainment
Just good old fashioned conversation.
Personal Touches
Just our bouquets and buttonholes. We picked some cornflowers for the buttonholes to add a splash of colour. My mother brought some fern over from her mother’s garden which looked beautiful. Lizzie and I had an awesome time making them!
Special Moments
Exchanging vows and relaxing on the beach!
Advice for other couples
It doesn’t have to be big and expensive, make sure you do what you want to do! It is your day!
Biggest Surprise
The weather, it was beautiful!
