Having played music at weddings ourselves in everything from string quartets to function bands, we understand what brides and grooms expect at their ceremony and reception. FixTheMusic is essentially a one-stop shop for finding and booking great musicians and bands, all of which have been hand-picked by us. We’re different from agencies because we put our customers in direct contact with musicians from the word ‘go’.

What made you start your business and how does it work?
It’s often difficult for couples to find the perfect music for their wedding. If you do find something suitable online, there’s no payment security to give you peace of mind. One option is to use a traditional agency, but aside from being expensive they don’t let you communicate directly with musicians, which makes it difficult to discuss things like song requests and first dances.

We wanted to solve all this with an Airbnb-style website that allows brides and grooms to make an enquiry and receive free quotes from a carefully-curated selection of local acts. Our enquiry form takes less than a minute to fill in, yet is backed up by a team of experts and state-of-the-art software that puts you in direct contact with musicians who match your requirements.

Once you’ve chosen your favourite act, details – including price – can be negotiated via email. You secure the booking by paying a 35% deposit on FixTheMusic, with the remainder due 28 days before the event. We hold your money securely until after the event when we take care of paying the musicians so you can enjoy your honeymoon without worrying about settling bills.

When did you start and where are you based?
We launched 11 months ago in Bermondsey, London and have been amazed by the extraordinary level of demand for this sort of service. We now have hundreds of musicians and have fixed music for weddings across the UK from Cornwall to Glasgow. We are increasingly receiving enquiries for destination weddings so FixTheMusic also has a great selection of musicians in Cyprus, Spain and other European countries. We are already excited about bookings confirmed for 2018 and beyond!

How would you describe your style?
Our musicians cover all musical styles from classical to indie rock, but we are particularly keen to cater to the latest wedding band trends. We’ve recently welcomed a number of Mumford & Sons-style bands to FixTheMusic that particularly suit rustic or festival-vibe weddings.
Vintage acts are also very popular, who suit all sorts of throwback themes from roaring 20s jazz to 1950s rock ’n’ roll. Alternatively, DJ-sax combos are increasingly getting booked for Ibiza-style receptions i.e. saxophonists who improvise over house and other club genres that really get your guests dancing.

What makes you different to your competitors?
We are the first UK website to put our clients in direct contact with musicians. Secondly, we really value customer service, as evidenced by our reviews on social media (100% 5-star reviews on Facebook and Google!). Thirdly, we cater to all budgets and offer complete payment protection, neither of which is offered by traditional agencies. Finally, we’ve worked hard to make our musicians’ profiles look amazing, with a stylish template of photos, audio and video to help our customers compare different acts.

What sort of couple do you think you attract?
Any couple who wants great live music, from classic choices like harpists, string quartets and ceilidh bands, to pop and funk bands with full horn sections covering everything from Motown to Bruno Mars.
FixTheMusic also has some authentic mariachi lineups, Bavarian oompah bands and drag queens. Ultimately, we do our best to cover all couples’ tastes, including those who want something a bit different that will set their wedding apart.

Can you give me some information on your pricing structure?
FixTheMusic is free for our customers to use. Our enquiry form lets you enter your approximate budget, which helps us direct you towards suitable acts. To give a rough idea, soloists generally begin at £190, three-piece lineups at £650 and four-piece cover bands from around £900.
Obviously other factors affect price like location and length of performance, and it’s also worth noting you can book some extremely experienced pop bands for £2k-£3.5k featuring session musicians who have backed Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith and other mainstream artists.
