As we travel round the world this week with our real weddings, today we find ourselves in Ontario, for this gorgeous Canadian Wedding. Katrina and Sean were married on the 16th May at the Kortright Centre, Ontario in Canada, a completely eco-friendly wedding venue. With a beautiful outdoor ceremony in a woodland setting, followed by a gorgeously decorated reception, with woodland animals as their theme, this wedding is a delight from start to finish. Big thanks to Samantha Ong Photography for the images.
It was a beautiful Saturday. It was supposed to thunderstorm, but the sun peaked through the bright green leaves of the tall trees that surrounded The Kortright Centre of Conservation, a place that is well known for its environmental and renewable energy efforts. It only made sense that Katrina and Sean would have their wedding here. They love to go for walks together and have taken the trails in Kortright a number of times. The Kortright Centre is an amazing venue for weddings as they have local and organic menus available, use vegetable and soy wax candles, offer fair trade coffee and tea for guests and they are 100% Bullfrog powered facility (a 100% green energy provider). Additionally, they do not use any chemicals or pesticides to maintain their grounds, they use a solar hot water heating system and a wetland wastewater treatment system. If all of that is not enough – all their proceeds go towards environmental education programs for the community.
The airy and green atmosphere reflected both of their personalities so well. They are not only soft and kind hearted, but they give back so much to the community – Katrina, being a Montessori teacher and Sean, a paramedic. I photographed their engagement session at High Park back in the fall and I loved how joyous they are together and you can tell how much they care for one another. Katrina wore a beautiful woodsy floral crown and had a stunning oversized bouquet made by Sweet Gale Gardens. Their ceremony was held in the cathedral of trees. The reception venue was surrounded by glass windows which looked out to the tall green trees which made you feel like you were right out with nature. Kortright also gave the venue a special touch with the fairy lights that lit up the venue so magically. Katrina and Sean had an artist make their table cards and their table seating sign with cute little animals instead of numbers and had the coolest wedding cake I’ve ever seen – a Lithuanian wedding cake (Ragoulis). But the best idea they had was that they offered their favourite used books to their guests. This is seriously the most amazing wedding favours I’ve ever seen yet!
