Sarah and Harry’s Cornish Elopement By Amy Sampson Photography

Today I have something a bit different for you in the form of this gorgeous Cornish elopement. It’s a beautiful intimate day full of joy, smiles and the most amazing Cornish sunset. Sarah and Harry chose this beautiful location as it meant they could have a legal outdoor ceremony right next to the beach that they loved. With just a handful of friends with them to share their celebration, this wedding is as personal as they come. Big thanks to Amy from Amy Sampson Photography for the gorgeous images.

‘Relaxed, informal beach wedding that was about the 2 of us’

Sarah and Harry were married on 16th January 2016 at Whitsand Bay Fort Holiday Park. ‘Harry lifeguards at the local beaches for the RNLI and it’s one of our favourite spots in the South West. We had a total of 6 guests and it took 3 months to plan the wedding’

The Proposal
Harry proposed while we were on a coastal walk near noss mayo

How did you allocate your budget
A good photographer was one of the most important aspects as was the venue and the scope for doing something outside. I really wanted photos of us all on the beach and luckily the sunshine didn’t disappoint on the day!

Where did you splurge and where did you save
It was a very low key wedding so we didn’t particularly splurge anywhere, obviously the venue was the most expensive part of the day but we all stayed there for the night of the wedding and partied in the hot tub!

How did you choose your photographer
Amy‘s photos really appealed to us, they are always very natural and her use of light is amazing.
We have lots of mutual friends and always chat when we see each other – normally in the supermarket! I knew Amy would put Harry and I at ease and would get some photos that were a bit different – she definitely succeeded.

The Dress
I bought my dress from asos, shoes were my something borrowed- my friend Emily had them made for her wedding and they were beautiful. Bangle is vintage given to me by harry’s mum – she was given it by an old woman who used to work with donkeys on the beach so quite fitting really!

The Suit and Bridesmaids
Didn’t have bridesmaids, my close friend Lou gave me away- she looked beautiful.

Theme or Colour Scheme
A very loose theme – beach inspired ribbons were used on the flowers, button holes and jam jars as well as lots of lanterns.

Flowers
Blue eucalyptus, cream roses and sea holly, they were amazing – just what I imagined.

Decoration
Bunting, lanterns and hessian wrapped jam jars with ribbons and flowers.

Food
The restaurant on site provided us with a 3 course dinner, everyone had something different and they were very accommodating.

Wedding Cake
Lou made the cake, a hummingbird recipe – strawberry Victoria sponge.

Entertainment
Songs that we had downloaded, some nostalgic and some new.

Special Moments
A black cat watched the whole of the ceremony and casually walked down with us after, we lost a very close friend to cancer 2 years ago – I like to think it was her watching us on our special day!

Advice to other couples
Try to keep it about the 2 of you, it’s easy to get carried away but at the end of the day it’s about you and the commitment your making to each other.

Biggest surprise
The sunshine and sunset! Planning a wedding for January is always risky but we were so lucky on the day!
