Happy Friday everyone, how ready are you for the weekend? I am SO ready! It’s been a long old week, what with hospital appointments, an ill child to look after and now I have caught what he has, so I’m looking forward to a bit of R&R time, there is so much going round at the moment, I hope you are all keeping fit and well. To finish off the week we have this gorgeous Austrian Wedding, that is simple, yet beautiful in its details and full of amazing photography from Roland Faistenberger Photography.
Melanie and Gerd were married on 25th July 2015 at Oggau, Burgenland (civil + church ceremony), Haus im See, Ferörakos (reception). ‘As we are both very attached to nature and often out and about we wanted to find a location either close to a mountain or a lake. Plus it shouldn’t be too far away from where we live. We had 80 guests in total. We got engaged 1.5 years before we married, actual planning started about a year before the wedding’
How they met
In a disco more than 13 years ago when we were both still at high school
The Proposal
In Austria we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, but Melanie received a stocking near the Christmas tree on Christmas day in the morning and found a stunning Tiffany ring while Gerd was already on his knees
How did you allocate your budget
Good food, a memorable location and a good photographer were the most important things for us and that’s what we spent most of our money on
Where did you save and where did you splurge
We saved a lot by doing our own stationery (Gerd is a graphic designer) and by a lot of DIY when it came to the decoration and guest favours etc.
How did you choose your photographer
Gerd is working with photographers a lot, so we browsed some wedding photographer’s websites and opted for the style that was closest to what we wanted our wedding pictures to look like.
The Dress
JLM Couture Hailey Page Blush (dress). Badgley Mischa Thora (shoes)
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Burberry (no bridesmaids, my maid of honour chose for herself)
The Stationery
We did it
Theme or Colour Scheme
Blush colours, a bit rustic, a bit vintage, a bit nautic (owing to the location of the reception at Lake Neusiedl)
Flowers
Peonies, Roses, Dahlias
Decoration
Nautic (boats, ropes), simple glass bottles and mason jars for the flowers, copper wind lanterns, wooden signs
Food
BBQed seafood, fish and meat
Wedding Cake
Was a ruffle cake in blush colours, Melanie is a food blogger and did lots of macarons and cake pops etc. herself added to the cake which was done by a professional baker
Entertainment
A fabulous DJ
Special Moments
The first moment we saw each other, being led to the altar (for Melanie)
Advice to other couples
Pinterest is your best friend.
It’s your wedding, so let yourself be led by what your gut feeling tells you and not what other people (or traditions) tell you.
Biggest surprise
A personalised book with recipes supplied by all our wedding guests.
