How they met

Me and Doug have had 2 first dates with completely opposite results! We met about 10 years on a standard Saturday night out, we immediately clicked and many hours later arranged to go on our first date. It didn’t go all too well the film was pretty terrible (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp) and Doug thought I was a bit to blunt for him. To cut a long story short I didn’t hear from him again under the pretext of him finishing his summer holiday from University. Fast forward 4 years and our paths crossed for the second time, but this time I must have had a better impression as the rest is history. Cue moving cities and countries 3 times for love and work, we are now looking to get married and buy our first house in just over a year, No Pressure!

The Proposal

Doug’s family have a Beach Hut on the Hampshire coast that holds many fantastic childhood memories, but I had never been so it was our first trip together staying there which was pretty special. My birthday fell when we were on holiday and completely out of character Doug had decided to surprise me for the day, and I was very good not making him tell me plans! The day involved going to a Quentin Blake exhibition, cake and tea, lots of yummy food and a comedy show. When I thought I couldn’t have any more surprises Doug made a bonfire on the beach at midnight, we were both very surprised when he popped the question but I couldn’t have asked for a more romantic place and time.

The wedding

Our vision for the wedding is Handmade with Love, we are both very untraditional so want a fun filled day with all our nearest and dearest, so the wedding is going to be quirky and DIY but in a good way! The day is going to be a fun filled day starting with a Humanist blessing on my parents lawn, followed by a Mad Hatters afternoon tea and garden games, ending in a kickass band to rock the night away.
We have chosen to get married at my parents’ house as it’s a blank canvas for us to add our stamp as well as having many happy memories for myself and many of my friends and family. I love a good Pinterest board so narrowing down the ideas for the day as been pretty difficult, but as the garden is such a labour of love for my parents I don’t need to do a lot in terms of decor during the day other than a bit of table dressing and metres of homemade bunting!
I have found some epic suppliers so far through my fabulous set of friends, I am so lucky I know loads of people in the wedding biz! Photography is one of the most important things on my list as the wedding is going to be about the details and it’s the one chance we have with all my loved ones in one place so I couldn’t be happier with our choice of Izzie. I have been friends with her photography partner for 10 plus years so she came highly recommended, and once we saw the pictures we were sold. I will talk a bit more about our suppliers in a future blog post, can’t wait for you all read more about our big day
