Diary of a Boho Bride – Emily & Jonny, Entry 8: Decoration

diary of a boho bride

I have that Friday feeling! Do you? I am really looking forward to the weekend and I have some lovely plans, I’m hoping the weather stays nice and bright. Yesterday was lovely and the first time I have been outdoors properly for a few days as I have been unwell.  Finally I am on the mend and I really want to enjoy the lovely spring weather!

Next week we will be introducing you to the 6 new Boho Brides and Grooms who will be writing for the blog over the next year or two, I know Kelly H is really excited to share them with you and find out more about their wedding journey. Today though it’s the turn of Emily and Jonny. Last time Emily shared with us her bridesmaids experiences and today she is talking to us about Decoration, which is alway a popular subject when it comes to wedding planning.

Emily and Jonny

I’ll pass you over to Emily………

Hello. Hope you’re having a good March. I can’t believe it’s March already; the weeks are flying by at the moment. This month we passed the 6-month count down mark! It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were celebrating the 1-year count down.  At 6 months it’s time to knuckle now and make actual decisions on things and timings and all the other details.

Decorations and invites are where my head is at this month. With rings waiting to be picked up, a meeting scheduled in with the venue, my time in between is on my laptop designing the invites every chance I get. I’d like to say they’re getting there but the fact is it’s a slow process and when I think I’m nearly done there’s something else to add or something I need to buy but sample first. It’s a frustrating process but I’m holding out for the results to be worth it. Jonny is in charge of wording, maps and when the time comes, he’s professional folder.  I’ll let you know how it ends in my next post, that is if I can still type after cutting, sticking, folding and God knows what else!

One thing that is progressing well is the decorations. The barn is a blank canvas, it has lovely exposed timber beams and huge doors that we’re hoping will be open if the weather is nice. The space is pretty as it is but I want to add all those little details to add a personal touch and bring it all to life. Family and friends are helping us collate all the finishing touches, gathering jars, bottles, etc. My advice would be to use your imagination and think outside the box, sometimes literally!

Last weekend when I was visiting my mum and dad, my dad took me wedding shopping, we went to a timber yard! Perfect. We found all sorts of things to use, logs, timber scraps and the best find was a tree stump. I think my dad is quite excited about making things for the wedding. I’ve set him the task of making a few things including an alternative ring cushion and a post sign. He’s even been doing samples for me to look at first. Dads are the best; they’ll do anything for their daughters.

So things are moving along swiftly. It’s just a struggle to find time to squeeze everything in around everyday life. My commute, lunch break and most evenings and weekends are devoted mainly to the wedding. It would be wedding heaven to do it all day, everyday but unfortunately chores still need doing.  So we will continue to collect and make decorations and continue to trial how things will look. I’m sure they’ll be many changes along the way especially how wedding season is starting and there’s of new inspiring ideas flying about.

Have a lovely month; let’s hope there’s some sunshine along the way soon!
