diary of a boho bride

Hello to you all and a big welcome to Friday. I hope you have had a lovely week and are looking forward to the weekend. Today we are back with our regular Boho Bride feature and I am pleased to welcome Kerry and Jon back to the blog. Last time they spoke about Venue Decoration and today they are back to share with you an update on what they have done so far in the wedding planning and all the finer details.

I’ll hand you over to Kerry…

Happy New Year Boho Brides! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas & New Year, congratulations to all you newly engaged couples that are about to embark on a fun and emotional journey.
I couldn’t be happier that 2015 is FINALLY here!! We’re getting married this year and I can’t wait.
As things started to calm down at work the week before Christmas, it suddenly hit me that it wasn’t that long until our wedding. I’d been so busy with work that I hadn’t even had a second to think about what was next.
After a lovely relaxing Christmas and New Year, it was time to get down to business and start planning the finer details.

Our Favourite… Food

We love good food and cake, who doesn’t?
We’ve known from the start that we didn’t want a sit down meal and decided that we’d love a barbeque. Although we don’t want a traditional barbecue either, no burgers or sausages and sugary buns. So racking our brains whilst out walking the pooches, we chatted about food we enjoyed eating and making at home. Snacking on olives, making homemade bread, pittas, pizzas, kebabs and Greek salads. Then it hit us that we could have a Mediterranean barbeque.
We sat down with the lovely Alethea at the Cock O Barton and discussed our ideas to see if they would be possible. With my mega organised notepad, I reeled off the menu to her hoping that I wasn’t asking too much. She couldn’t of made me feel more at ease, and that anything is possible, I think she’s a wedding wonder woman!

Bridesmaid Dresses

I wasn’t prepared for how difficult it would be to decide on bridesmaid dresses, there’s so much to consider. There’s the colour, length, fitting, material, will they clash with my dress and the hardest one of all is finding a suitable dress for a 12 year old!
After months of searching I finally found the perfect dress for my 12 year old daughter. It’s a difficult age, as I don’t think, she’s quite old enough to wear dresses in the same style as the adults and too old to wear the same as our two flower girls.

If anyone’s stuck in the same situation, try BHS. I honestly thought I would never find a dress for Caitlin. However, they have a lovely range of teen bridesmaid dresses and have saved the day!

After already purchasing two sets of adult bridesmaid dresses, I still wasn’t convinced they were right, so I have another set on the way! It’s been a tougher decision than choosing my own dress. Although I’ve realised, it’s ok to change your mind and actually the third set is what I wanted in the beginning, which has taught me to just go with your gut instinct.

Thankfully Jon and my bridesmaids have been very understanding.

Makeup Trial

Today is my make-up trial with the amazing Mandy Rigby MUA for my makeup trial. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to discuss ideas and see them come to life. Generally I wear my makeup very natural, which never lasts all day and certainly wouldn’t be sassy enough or stand up to Claire’s lens. Enlisting the help of a talented MUA not only means I’ll have a perfect flawless glow, it will be ready for the camera and hopefully waterproof too, as there’s bound to be happy tears.

DIY Update

The DIY has started! I’m currently in the process of making paper flower garlands and they’re coming along rather well, I’ve shocked myself.
They seem to be taking a long time to make, although I’m sure I’ll speed up as I get into the swing of cutting, creating, gluing etc
I’m pleased with how pretty they are and will make a lovely alternative to bunting.

Invitations

Omg, I’m sure the invitations need to go out soon and we’re nowhere near deciding on the style we like. There’s such a wide array to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to start. We’ll keep hunting, if anyone has any ideas for alternative wedding invites, please let me know as I’m currently stumped.
