Here is the result of the interview!

I was asked by South Yorkshire magazine Profile to write a piece on my top 10, now I have to admit it was a while ago when I wrote this and I didn’t actually get a copy of the magazine itself but they did send me a PDF!

So today’s Post is dedicated to the greatness that is Kat and her excellent Blog!…….and of course the amazing Wedding Magazine for embracing us bloggers! its great to see that we can all work together……..Here’s to a bright future!

And can i say how much I am loving that Title ‘ Meet the new Generation’ it’s the first time I’ve felt young in a long time…like Vogue when they announce the new generation of super models!! (but not like that at all!!)

Made in Sheffield is a modern and contemporary lifestyle magazine aimed at young, affluent professionals in Sheffield. The magazine will be by-monthly and will be delivered direct to homes in the affluent areas of Sheffield.
Kym has covered many areas in the magazine, including fashion, food, drink, travel, motoring, what’s on, interviews and weddings .

I have written an article to go in the wedding section of this months magazine, which was featured on my blog a couple of weeks back called ‘The first steps to planning…..Your instruction Manual’
I will be working with Kym closely over the next few months as a featured writer, so watch out for more articles giving wedding planning advice in many different areas.

It’s amazing to see your own wedding featured in a magazine, and it filled me with so much pride to open up the magazine and see my pictures in there, it brought all those wonderful memories of 6 months a go flooding back.

Here is the interview perfect magazine did with me to come up with the artical:
How did you met?
Out clubbing in Sheffield, Nik lives in Sheffield and I was up there for the night with a group of friends. I had gone out to have a good time and a good dance and was not looking to even talk to a man.
Nik was chatting up my best friend (he denies this to this day) she then introduced him to her husband and to me, and then we just sat chatting all night until it was time to go home.

Did he ask you out on a date there and then?
No we took each others phone numbers, and then he lost his phone!!
Somehow he managed to pick up a voice mail I left him when he got a new phone (the wonders of technology I have no idea how) and then he rang me up and we arranged to meet.

The proposal – Was the date he proposed a special date? Where were you?
Not a special date: 1st September. We would have been together 2 years on the first October, but we were in Cornwall (where I was brought up) it was Saturday afternoon and we were just coming back from my favourite restaurant Sam’s in Fowey and walked across the Quay to my favourite view in the whole world, looking out across the boats out at sea, he stood behind me, put his arms around me and presented me with the ring.

Did you suspect he was going to propose?
No I thought it may be coming at some point, but for some reason did not expect it then, maybe because it was the day, I imagined it would be the evening, but it was much better this way as I had no idea.

How did you react?
I cried straight away, hugged him and then felt really embarrassed that people were looking. Of course I said yes!!

Date of the wedding plus why you chose this date?
Tuesday 16th June 2009. Originally we were getting married in Cornwall. I am from Cornwall originally and always imagined we would get married there, so we found a perfect place, a little piece of land, right next to a beach with a cottage to hire, the wedding would have been held on the grounds. There were only 2 dates free that year so we booked 20th June. We later found out that the owner wouldn’t allow wedding receptions there so we looked at other venues in the Fowey area.
But after a few months of planning we decided that we wanted something less conventional and more our sort of wedding. We love Ibiza and were planning on going there for our stag and hen dos so we decided to get married in Ibiza instead. We wanted to keep it as close to the original date as possible so we did it on 16th June on a Tuesday.

What made you chose your colour scheme?
Yellow has always been my favourite colour and with it being in Ibiza I thought that it would be nice and bright and summary.

Dress designer?
Alfred Sung Grecian style, empire line dress, fitted bust with silk underlay and a chiffon over, low back with silver diamante detail underneath the bust and on the straps.

Where did you get the dress from?
Mirage Couture in Sheffield

How did you know it was ‘the dress’?
I had a good idea what I was looking for, then Nik’s mum and I went to a wedding fair in Sheffield and the dress was in the fashion show. I loved it, so made an appointment to go and try it on. It was the first one I tried on and I just knew, I must have tried about 20 others on that day but always went back to that one……I just knew!!

Shoes by?
Benerly Feldman at Russell and Bromley Silver sling backs with a peep toe.

Bridesmaids outfits by?
Miss Sixty , I wanted something less conventional for them, and more casual.
The dresses were brown layers of chiffon with a layer of yellow chiffon underneath with yellow piping around the bodice.

Tell us the name of your ceremony and reception venue/s and the town/city/county
It was a Villa wedding and Ceremony, Villa Can Victoria, San Augustin Ibiza

Ceremony venue -Why did you chose the venue you did? What impressed you about it?
We were originally looking at getting married on a beach in Ibiza, But once we looked into it we found out that the laws had been changed in Ibiza the year before making beach weddings illegal. We looked at a few beach bars which were all lovely with great views but all also came with the prospect of the members of the public being able to walk past and watch. We wanted something more private so our wedding planner suggested a Villa venue. We went to look at the first one and fell in love with it! A 10 bed Villa with a massive pool, and enough room to hold the ceremony and the reception all in the same place, we also stayed at the villa for the 2 weeks we were out there. It gave us a lot more options and a lot more freedom to have the wedding just as we wanted it and with great views of the Ibizan mountains.

Reception details?
We hired in Caterers eat ibiza who did everything. They brought in the tables and chairs, decorated the tables, sorted out the cake and the flowers, and provided the bar.
Everything was very relaxed, informal and very simple; I wanted to keep the décor simple with t-lights and flowers decorating the pool area. Luckily as it was outside we didn’t need much else as there were lots of trees and bushes which made the place even more beautiful.
We had sangria on arrival for the guests then champagne and canapés. After the ceremony a sit down meal of Spanish tapas to start and then a main of sea bass or chicken with the wedding cake served as a dessert.

Men’s suits by?
Suit Steel &Jelly, shirt by Ted Baker
The suit was off white and the shirt white, Nik wore Paul Smith flip flops, it took me about a year to convince him that he couldn’t wear shorts to the wedding!!

The bouquet?
Phalianopsis orchids with yellow centres and Pale yellow Gerberas and Ivy cascade.

The flowers?
Pale yellow Gerberas for the bridesmaids, a hand held bouquet
Phalianopsis orchids for the table centres wrapped inside a clear vase with 3 gerbera heads at the bottom of the vase.
Pale yellow Gerberas for the buttonholes.
T-Lights dotted around the venue.

The cake?
2 Tier New York lemon Cheesecake with white chocolate cigarettes to decorate and fresh strawberries and yellow gerbera heads.

The entertainment?
I put together an IPod play list from the guests arriving right up to the speaches.
After this we had a DJ from ‘Space’ come and take over who also supplied the sound system for the ipod, Brian ,was brilliant and didn’t play any cheesy wedding music, it was all vocally uplifting house music, even my mum was dancing!!
After the DJ went home, the guests all ended up in the pool including me and Nik, we stayed up till 5am

Cards?
Save the Date, Invites and Order of Service were from ever after designs.

Tables/favours?
Instead of a name card I got a picture of every guest and laminated it and put it where they would be sitting. They also had a paper fan which we had made with Nik and Kelly Ibiza June 16th 2009 written on it.
The tables we wanted to keep simple and clean looking so all white with the Phalianopsis orchids wrapped inside a vase for centre pieces, with yellow ribbon tied around each napkin.

Any special touches/anything you did differently?
Really the whole wedding was different having it in Ibiza, it was just a completely different mood and feeling, and much more relaxed and laid back than any English wedding we have been to ourselves. We didn’t go for any formalities just laid back Ibizan chic.

Special moment?
Reading our own personally written vows in the ceremony. We kept these secret from each other some how, so it was a complete surprise when we read them in the ceremony. I cried when I wrote mine but was determined not to cry when I read them out. I was doing really well until the last line and then I just chocked up and out came the tears. It was a very emotional ceremony, but at the same time we kept making the odd joke here and there to keep it light hearted.

Tips?
Keep it personal to you and let the wedding reflect you as a couple. Every one commented on how our wedding was very ‘us’ which is just what we wanted.

What was your best idea?
The paper fan’s. It was a really hot day. We got to Ibiza when they were in a middle of a heat wave, so these really helped everyone keep cool during the ceremony. They were meant to be favours on the tables for the reception but they were moved last minute onto the each persons chair ready for the ceremony, as was the location of the ceremony. Originally it was going to be up by the pool area where the food was being served but we decided the day before to move the ceremony into a shaded area of the Villa.

With what were you most pleased?
Just how perfect the day was, everything ran smoothly and with no hitches. It was a really relaxed day, very Ibizan!! Also the food was amazing www.eat-ibiza.com couldn’t have been better! All the guests commented on how good it was.

Biggest surprise of the day?
How calm I was, the lead up to the wedding I had a few bridezilla moments, and the day before the wedding I was a mess, but I woke up on the day feeling incredibly calm and together, everyone around me was crying and really nervous, especially my 2 bridesmaids, I ended up calming them down all day instead of the other way around.

Would you do anything differently?
No everything was just perfect, I couldn’t have wished for a better day!!

What was a godsend?
The wedding planner. Getting married aboard can be very daunting. Not like getting married in the UK, so once I had found Sharon, she became like a best friend! The poor women must have got sick of me emailing her nearly every day for one reason or another. It was great as all the suppliers knew each other and had worked with each other before.

On what did you splash out?
The Villa and the food

On what did you save?
Nik’s suit. One of his friends works in a suit shop so got a great discount.

What would be your advice to brides-to-be?
Get your budget sorted out first, find out if you are going to get financial help from anyone, and then get yourself an excel spread sheet and stick to it.
Sit down with your fiancé and talk about what is important to each of you, one may want to spend lost of money on photos, the other may want to spend lots on entertainment. Priorities what is most important and what is least then you will know what to spend your money on and where you can save it.
Break all your jobs down month by month and write out what needs to be done each month.
Don’t let other people get to you, invite who you want and have the wedding you want. If other people don’t like you choices then it really doesn’t matter. It is your wedding, have it as you want and enjoy every moment of it.

Best money-saving tip?
Using an Excel spead sheet and working out the budget before you start planning, there always has to be some flexibility but don’t let things run away with you.
