Real Engagements: From the streets to the beach, all the way from Texas!

Today I am bringing you an engagement shoot all the way from Texas, courtesy of Barett Henry From Civic Photos. Barett sent me in this shoot a couple of weeks ago and what I love is that there are two different locations. I do feel that because engagement shoots and pre wedding shoots don’t tell the story of the wedding that sometimes they lack something, but by mixing up the locations like this we get two shoots for the price of one!

How did you meet?
We met at six flags over Texas in San Antonio through mutual friends back in 2007 and have been dating since June 2010

Tell me about the proposal
We were on a cruise to the Bahamas and I had found a casino chip in the restroom, so we went and played it and I lost of course (all part of the plan). Then we left and walked to the top deck of the ship and i said I wanted to gamble again. She was against it but I reassured her i think i can win this time. So after much back and forth, I said I’m going to go for it, then pulled out the ring and proposed. She said yes, I obviously won and the rest is history.

Tell me one the thing you love most about each other
Jonathan: I love her pure and innocent heart and how she is always considerate of others.
Jacklyn: I feel secure and content with him. He is someone who i can be myself around and understands me.

Real Weddings: cup cakes for breakfast…….a long Island early morning engagement shoot

Today’s Real Wedding is actually an Engagement shoot and has been sent in by Ananda Lima a very talented New York Photographer who I met on twitter recently.
The Shoot shows shows us great views of the Manhattan sky line, and was taken at sunrise so the low lighting is beautiful! The couple are Yvonne and Lawrence and I’m sure you will agree with me that they make a very cute couple.

Ananda says about the shoot:
‘When I talked to the lovely Yvonne and Lawrence about booking their engagement shoot, I suggested (as I often do) that we met early-ish to have more privacy and better light. Usually couples choose to interpret ‘early’ on a weekend to be 11 am, which is totally fine (it is much better to have a happy awake couple than the best lighting/ privacy conditions)… but these guys are real troopers and immediately replied with “how about sunset?”.

The good stuff didn’t stop there. Yvonne and Lawrence were amazing company: super sweet, funny and very cute with each other (morning crankiness factor = zero!). They picked a gorgeous location and brought cupcakes for a breakfast picnic! What a great way to start the day it turned out to be!

The shoot was at Gantry Plaza Park in Long Island City, since they had their first date and spent a lot of time together there in Long Island City (not too far from the park). The park has a beautiful view of Manhattan as well as some very cool areas. We spent a couple of hours walking around, enjoying the sun (first weekend of Spring), having apple juice* and cupcakes… and taking pictures!… Here are some of them!

Real Weddings: Love amongst Art……..an Autumn Engagement shoot

On Tuesday I featured a Q&A with the very talented Shelly from Toast of Leeds Photography and as promised here is a gorgeous romantic Engagement shoot from the lovely lady!

I’m a bit gutted as my 60s photo shoot with Shelly has had to been re arranged, due to the stupid snow. Its’ now happening at the end of January instead, so watch this space for more info.

Jo and Andy’s Engagement shoot took place in October in the lovely Yorkshire countryside of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The park is a great place for photos and also for weddings (see my post HERE)
Shelly says
‘I’m petrified of having my picture taken and I’d not planned on having a photographer, can you just come along for an hour and do some snaps?’ The very words Jo (pictured above looking like she’s having a great time) used in her first email to me.
If I had a penny for every time a bride or groom told me they hate having their picture taken, I could probably retire. However, instead I coax them round telling them that a shoot with me is not about standing to attention and feeling distinctly uncomfortable but having a laugh and getting to know each other – I just happen to take a big camera along. Which is why Jo, her husband-to-be Andy, and I headed to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park recently to have some fun in the autumn sun.
Of course Jo tried hiding her face in her lovely blue coat but once I got her twirling amid the long grass and jumping up and down, she was well on her way to loving it and proving that even the most camera shy folks can feel a little less self conscious when the conditions are right.
The YSP is a great place for a shoot – although not so good on a beautiful Sunday when the entire world seems to have descended on the same place and you’re dodging walkers and families and trying to coax the lovebirds to show you their romantic side. ‘

Real Weddings – Fran & Scott engagement shoot (part 2)

Yesterday I shared with you the wonderful pictures of Fran & Scotts ‘part 1′ engagement shoot in Sheffield City Centre, by the incredibly talented PH Weddings .
Well today it is Part 2 of the shoot.

Fran and Scott get married this April so not long to go!! The second Shoot took part in Burbage, in Derbyshire. It is a special place for them as they love to walk through the spectacular scenery and Scott is a keen climber. In fact, the top table at their wedding will be the “Burbage” table!

Helen says, ”We had already done an evening engagement shoot in Sheffield city centre, so it was lovely to get a real mix of shoots showcasing how amazing the city landscape can be in Sheffield and then literally a stone’s throw from the centre of the city is the most amazing scenery in the Peak District. We are spoilt for choice with wedding photography locations.”

”It was a lovely, sunny but cold Saturday when we met the couple in the Peaks; the rocks were dusted with powdery snow and with the sun shining down we were truly blessed. As Scott is a climber we got some shots of him hanging off rocks with Fran looking on! We bravely climbed up to the top of the rocks to get some stunning shots of the moor. Fran and Scott were keen to get some fun shots so we were in our element with jumping shots, piggy backs, snowball fights and lots of laughter.”

The photos once again look amazing and really shows the Peak District scenery off to it’s best.
Fran and Scott look like a great couple and I’m sure the wedding photos will be as fantastic as both of these engagement shoots. May I wish them both a fantastic day and many years of happiness together.

Real Weddings – Fran & Scott engagement shoot (part 1)

A few weeks back I asked my lovely photographer friends for some pictures for my Valentines day special. I had some amazing pictures sent through, one of which was from the very talented Helen at PH Weddings.
I loved her entry so much that I asked if I could use the whole shoot for my blog……………….so here it is!

The pictures are of Fran and Scott who are getting married in April 2010 at Whitley Hall. The shoot is in two parts, incorporating Sheffield City centre at night and Burbage, Derbyshire in it’s snow covered glory by day.

The 1st part of the shoot took part on a mild October evening in Sheffield City Centre.
Helen says ”The Peace Garden looked spectacular, with the lights and fountains providing stunning backdrops. After some fun in a phone box and some shots near the ‘Wheel of Sheffield’ we finished off by the train station.”

I have lived in Sheffield now for nearly 3 years and I never knew it looked like this until I saw these amazing pictures!!
I think you will agree the colours are amazing and the movement in the pictures is stunning. Helen and Paul have done a fantastic job in capturing our beautiful city in all it’s glory!

Calling all Brides and Photographers – Contact me for my Real Brides feature

Lots of Wedding Blogs do it; yes it’s the real bride feature. I could spend all day looking at other peoples wedding pictures, especially the ones that are a bit different, have a theme or some sort of twist. So I decided that it would be great if people could send me in their own pictures to feature in my blog.
I’m happy to look at engagement shoots, pre wedding shoots, wedding boudoir shoots, weddings, blessings, civil partnerships, renewal of vows, weddings in the UK, weddings abroad, Trash the dress shoots……………anything really as long as it shows your love and individuality.
If you want to add in any other details such as suppliers you used (always nice to give credits to other companies) bit of a story of how you met, details of the wedding itself, then I can write up a bit of an article on you as well.
If it is your wedding please make sure the photographer is OK with the photos being published and if you are the photographer please make sure the couple is OK being featured.
