It’s the wedding of Rebeca and Tom who were married on 3rd September, the ceremony was at Truro Registration Office, with the reception at Bedruthan Steps Hotel, with a total of 50 guests. It’s such a relaxed day, with such beautiful shots taken on the Mawgan Porth beach near Newquay.

Rebeca and Tom describe their day as ‘The day was amazing and relaxed, we had our family and friends close while eating beautiful food, drinking great wine, dancing to funky music and with the beach in our sight.’

How they met
We met in NE Brazil, in a mountain town called Lencois in bahia on October 2009. We think destiny was playing a huge part in getting us together as we met in the middle of one of the biggest national parks in brazil. We met on the 25th of October 2009 when we both took part in a 3 day trek, into the jungle, tom was travelling through south America for a year and Rebeca was on vacation from work by herself. The first day of the trek was heavily rained off, and our guide, flor came to our separate hostels and said we would go the next day. There would be 5 of us. The other 3 French guys never showed and it was just us to trek. We spent 3 wonderful days together. After that Tom travelled to sao Paulo, Rebecca’s city, to spend time with her and see what would happen. Tom came back one more time for Christmas and new year and 2 years later we were married.

The proposal
I came to spend Christmas in the UK and meet Tom’s friends and family. Tom had learnt a song on guitar, me and you by Dave Matthews band to play to me and he proposed on the waterline at Constantine beach with a 2p gummy sweet ring in a ring box, as a playful gesture and took her to choose a ring in Truro.

Wedding Planning
It only took 2 months to plan! I came to the UK on beginning of July and we were super-efficient on selecting the venue, flowers, cake, photographer, music, etc. We worked as a team and my mother in law was great giving suggestions since I had no idea about suppliers here in Cornwall!

Dress
I am known for being relaxed and an example of anti-bridezilla… Well, I went to London and met 2 of my best friends there to find a dress, but after 3 stores all I wanted was to sit down to have a drink and talk with them. I tried a dress at Fraser Jones (1st store) that I really liked, so I came home and ordered online!
I bought my hair piece at Accessorize and my shoes at John Lewis. The earrings were from my mom.

The suit and bridesmaids
Tom found a great suit on a Next catalogue, so we went to a store and bought everything (shoes, tie, shirt and even the socks!). I didn’t have bridesmaids….

Theme
Lavender, green and white, we were searching for very fresh, simple natural country colours , we didn’t want to much colour going on as we had the ocean and beach, both of our soul places as the main focal beauty. We used a lot of candles from St Eval candle factory, a local producer, with whom tom once worked, to set a cosy intimate mood.

Food
BedRuthan Chef, Ben, suggested many options from a wide range of dishes, all produced or sourced within 20 miles of the hotel therefore we only used the freshest of ingredients. We aimed for a Mediterranean feel with very light foods and picky bits trying to cover the Brazilian and British palate.

Entertainment
We built playlists for the different moments of the party, but our main entertainment was a friend of ours, a very talented guitarist with a Congo drum player, Billy Harrigan, he played a 2 hour set and had everyone dancing and vibing. They were truly magnificent.

Flowers
We researched many florists from the region, and we decided to hire Roses and Rascals from Padstow. They did the bouquet, table arrangements, corsage and button holes and beautiful mirror vases and supports with country flowers.

Personal touches
• We also made a cd with our favourite songs for the guests and each
• Woman got a candle from the St Eval candle Factory.
• My mom brought a pair of Hawaianas flip flops for every guest to dance freely at the dance floor!
• Sarah Falugo (our photographer) provided a photo booth

Special moments 
Just as we were about to head out to the registry office one of the best men realizes that the shop he bought his suit in had left the security tag, and it looked terrible. He rang hotel reception to see if they could remove it, and the shop if we had time. Things were looking bad but the hotel managed to get it off.
Rebecas friends from Brazil that couldn’t make it sent a DVD with all of their best wishes messages; it was very emotional and beautiful to have “them” (even for a while) in the party.
Tom read a speech in Portuguese which made Rebeca’s mum cry and some Brazilian friends laughed.

Advice
Don’t think too much about what people expect or what is seen as an appropriate wedding. Do it your way, make it wacky, personal and don’t be afraid to do something a little different and keep a sense of humour whilst planning so you don’t lose all your hair.

Biggest Surprise
That Tom and I were relaxed! No stress at all!

I’m a Cornish artist, (originally from Penzance) but now living in Nottingham and I create wedding stationery that features your wedding venue! (For a very reasonable price)
A combined love of art and weddings. Made me start my business in 2011. My wedding day was the happiest day of my life, so what could be a better profession than helping other couples to achieve the same?
This is my dream job. If it wasn’t my job, I’d still be drawing and colouring. It’s not something I can stop myself from doing!

Your Style
Original, quirky, bright and colourful but romantic too.

Biggest achievement so far
The wedding venue design directory. This is a directory of designs of wedding venues that I have put together. The designs are applied to various items of wedding stationery; save the date cards / wedding invitations / RSVPs /orders of service / tableplans /menus / place-setting cards / thank you cards. Usually then, a bespoke touch is added to the design to make it personal to the couple (ie the addition of the bride’s favourite flowers or pet / the couple’s wedding colour scheme or theme etc). The couple then has a range of wedding stationery items that feature their very own wedding day! So far the directory only consists of designs of wedding venues based in the East Midlands (and South Yorkshire) but this is changing rapidly. There has been a lot of interest and venues from across the UK will be added in. If a couple’s wedding venue is not yet in the directory, couples can commission their venue to be added at no extra cost to them. (Commissions don’t have to be the wedding venue, I have just finished an order that required a design of New York!)

What makes you different?
I was an artist before I got into wedding stationery (I currently have exhibitions in two Cornish art galleries – place an order with me and your stationery might be worth more than you paid for it in a few years time!!) so my approach to designing is less prescriptive and I perhaps have more flexibility about what I can put onto my stationery. (ie pretty much anything) Also I give couples the chance to tweak the design before it goes to print. It is important to me that a couple is entirely happy with their design.

Inspiration:

And luckily for me, they do!

This is truly a beautiful wedding, having been brought up in Cornwall I am a sucka for a Cornish wedding, especially one with wild flowers, a view of the sea and a marquee set on a cliff top…………oh and what can I say about Clarissa and that rather amazing dress! she is just breathtaking! I hope you love it as much as I do.

Paul has been kind enough to tell me a bit more about the day.

Clarissa and Ted both now live together in the Camden area of London where they both enjoy successful careers. Clarissa has lived in both Cornwall and Devon when growing up so was keen to come back home for their special day. Lanreath is where she grew up and decided to have their day in and around that area.

The Bridal Prep took place at Carissa’s Mum and Step dads house in Plymouth, which was an old Edwardian terraced house. It fitted in with the vintage theme brilliantly. We then drove about half an hour over the border to Cornwall for the rest of the day.

Clarissa found all her dresses in a vintage boutique in Portobello Road in London, her dress was a 1930′s silk one piece which was a very light silk, she did look amazing in it.

The church was traditional and a very personal place for the family and this fully came across during the service. There was a definite atmosphere of familiarity throughout.
The reception was held in a cliff top field owned by a friend of the family who was kind enough to let them use it for their day.

We stopped on a hill, which over looks the sea and the reception venue for some bride and groom shots as requested due to it being a special place for the couple. The views were stunning and it gave them a few minutes to themselves to take in all that had just happened during a very busy and nervous morning.

They were extremely fortunate with the weather as the day before they were setting up the marquee in thick fog and you could not even see the sea but luckily the weather turned and after a grey morning we had lovely late summer sunshine as we left the church.
The marquee was decorated beautifully with vintage wild flowers and a very country feel to it. One of the best Marquee’s I’ve seen.

We then went to the nearby beach for some more photos of the couple alone together while the guests enjoyed drinks and canapés then back to the marquee for a few group shots. We left them enjoying their locally sourced asparagus and lamb.

Foewy Hall Hotel It’s a gorgeous venue with superb staff,  the accommodation is split into the old house and the new modern wing, me and Nik opted for the modern side!  after the ceremony we had champagne on the terrace and then spent the rest of the evening in Sams pigging out on scallops, Lobster and cocktails! yum yum!

This wedding is of the gorgeous Chan and Ben, unfortunately I havn’t been able to get any info from them about their day at Fowey Hall Hotel, but I will let the pictures do the talking! they look like such a fun couple! and I just love the shots of  tehtm both on the trampoline!

The wedding is of Kahdine and Charles who got married on 25th September 2010 at St Uny Church, Lelant and Gonwin Manor in St Ives Cornwall. I asked Sylvia what her favourite part of the wedding was‘the party atmosphere at this wedding was just fabulous; this was a wedding where the couple and their guest had a really great time. The Riverbrew band really managed to capture their audience and ensured a full dance floor throughout the evening. It’s just nice to see people having so much fun, it makes our job a lot easier And on a personal note, it was lovely that we finally had a good excuse to visit Cornwall. We’d never been before, always wanted to go, and it was just so beautiful.’
What do you think make a good wedding video ‘Personality. If the couple’s personality shines through, if you feel like you get to know them through their wedding film then you’re on to a winner. We always want make a wedding film that reflects what is unique and special about our couples. I love it when I watch a wedding film and think “I wish I had been there”. And that, to me, is always down to the filmmaker’s ability to capture the personality of the couple.‘

How did you meet?
We’ve been together nearly 4 years. How we got together? Well it’s a long story involving a protest march, a visit to Bangladesh, and a Mexican restaurant. We’d been working at the same organisation for some time but ‘discovered each other’ in Autumn 2007.

What made you decide to get married where you did?
We were always going to get married in Cornwall at St Kea church. It was where Ele grew up, her family still attend the church… and it’s a gorgeous location! We were worried about asking most of our guests to travel a long way to be with us – but they enjoyed Cornwall when they made it down!

Who was your dress by
I found my dress squeezed into the backroom of a Sale store in Feltham, South West London. It turned out to be by the British designer Dizzie Lizzie Couture and I loved it – and can’t understand how it had spent so long ignored by other brides. It was about three sizes too big so I spent as much on getting it altered as I did buying it in the first place, but it was worth every penny.

And the suite?
Very boring I’m afraid – a simple navy number from M&S! Nice shoes by Loake though.

How would you sum up your day?
Lots of our guests said it was the most relaxed wedding they’d ever been to. We wanted the children to enjoy themselves and chose to ignore all the annoying traditions and included what we wanted.

Did you have a theme or colour scheme?
A sort of berry-purple range of colours popped up throughout the day. I just chose colours I liked for dresses, flowers and decor and was relieved that on the day they all worked well together!

Did you have any personal touches? Or things that you did yourself?
Yes, we were really keen that it was our designs and our ideas that came through so we designed and produced the invites and order of service. Ele chose all the decorations for the hall and the flowers were grown by the market gardener ‘up the road. Ele’s bridesmaid Rachel slaved over a boiling pan to produce Cornish fudge which we packaged up for each guests with a tag as their place setting.

How many guests?
100 friends and family

What were your special moments/highlights?
The sun shining was a great result! Too many highlights to mention really, but Steven’s children doing a great job of being best men, our friend Abbie’s incredible rendition of ‘You’ve got the Love’ in church, a wonderful saffron-infused wedding cake by Ele’s friend Nadia (the cake even has its own blog which includes a history of wedding cakes and video demonstrations!!), the amazing Cornish buffet, heading over to the reception in a vintage bus with our guests, and, of course, most important of all, a wonderful and inclusive wedding ceremony led by Charlie Peer the vicar of St Kea Church.

Is there anything you would do differently?
Try not to time it so you’re exchanging on your first house the week before the wedding. We pulled it off but it was a bit too much pressure!

What advice would you give any other couples?
We took a few days off prior to the wedding to finish last minute planning and to get the venue ready. We don’t know how we’d have done it otherwise.

What was your biggest surprise of the day?
Our wonderful friend, Hannah Stephenson, wrote and performed a love song for us – we had no idea she’d done it and she even presented us with a CD and the sheet music for the song which we plan to frame. These pictures are very different to any other shoot I have been involved in; there were no props, no stylist, no hair or makeup artist or fancy clothes…just me and Nik.

I’d been thinking about doing an anniversary shoot for a few months, our first year of marriage was, well difficult to put it in a nutshell, the pressure of being made redundant and then setting up a new business from nothing and with no other job to support me defiantly put a huge pressure on our marriage…BUT our second year of marriage had been so much better, once we had adjusted to each other and the shift in the job situation we learnt to get to know each other again and really appreciate each other…..and in a way fall in love all over again.
Our wedding photos were great but it was way too hot the day of the wedding to be standing around having our pictures taken, plus Nik isn’t a huge fan of the cameras, and our portrait pictures were literally done in 5 minutes. For both of these reasons I really wanted to get some lovely pictures of myself and Nik together that we could keep for ever and put up around the house.

We had planned months ago that we were going to go down to Cornwall for our second year anniversary, as we normally go down at some point in the summer to visit my mum, plus that is where Nik proposed to me, and it’s were we had our first ‘secret’ wedding to get all the paper work done for our ‘official’ wedding blessing in Ibiza, so it seemed like a great place to have the shoot done.
Cornwall isn’t close to any of the photographers I had on my list that I wanted to work with, so with the power to twitter I went off on my merry way to see if anyone was free, or knew of any good photographers in the south west of the country.
I put a shout out and about 10 minutes later Marianne replied saying, I’m in Cornwall that week on holiday, so I’m free!’ I couldn’t believe my luck, Marianne is an amazing and hugely talented photographer, whose work I adore, so after a few email conversations we had agreed on a date and time and the ball was in full motion to make my idea a reality.

BUT there was a problem, Nik HATES having his picture taken, and I still had to convince him that the shoot was a good idea. Marianne suggested that we didn’t do a traditional anniversary shoot that we use the ‘beloved’ method instead. I’d heard about this before as Kat at Rock n Roll bride had done one with Marianne a few months ago, so I knew the basis of what it was all about.

Basically Beloved is aimed at getting the couple being photographed to open up and explore each other’s emotions through a series of exercise. It was devised by Canadian photographer Jesh de Rox and you can listen to him doing a talk about it here. The exercise draws on happy and sad emotions as well as physical exercises, all of which involve not posing, in fact most of the time the couple are not actually aware that the photographer is there. It’s a very private and intimate experience.

So with Nik now in agreement we went off to Cornwall for our 5 day mini break.

We were so luck the day of the shoot as the weather was just terrible, it was booked in at 3pm and all day it had rained, we chose to do it in Fowey as my favourite view in the whole world is there and it’s the exact spot where Nik proposed to me, so for sentimental reasons I knew it had to be there. At 3pm it was still raining, by 3.10pm it had stopped, the clouds had gone and the sun came out and stayed that way for the next 2 hours!
Meeting Marianne ne was a joy, she immediately made us feel relaxed and the shoot began.

I have to say that the whole experience was amazing; it made it even more special as it was our anniversary, but to spend 2 hours in such a lovely way really made our day. I was surprised how much I didn’t realise we were being photographed, the whole thing just felt so intimate! We ran through a series of exercises that Marianne set us, some were happy and funny, and as you can see from the photos we laughed a lot! While others were tender and loving, others were sad and very emotional. I have to admit I did shed a small tear when Nik was told to draw on my hand an image he saw of us in the future………..he drew both of sat on a park bench together when we were old! I can’t put the whole thing into words, but I felt strangely close to Nik after the shoot, we had discussed things that we would never normally think or talk about, and it was a chance for us to channel our emotions and really connect as a couple again and remember why we were together in the first place!

I’ve asked Nik to add his views on the whole experience…so here is my husband (I never tire of calling him that) to tell you how he found it.

‘When Kelly first mentioned that she would like to do a beloved shoot for our second anniversary, I have to admit I was less than enthusiastic! I cannot stand having my photo taken – unless I have turned someone else’s camera on myself and pull a stupid face!
So it was with great trepidation that I agreed to undergo my idea of hell! You all know how persuasive Kelly can be! When she told me that not only would I have to endure this, but also talk about my feelings in front of someone I had never met, I wanted to put a stop to it!
I couldn’t have been more wrong! Not something I admit to on a regular basis. Marianne was delightful and put me at ease straight away. I can’t think of anything worse than just standing around with somebody’s camera in your face clicking away, but if felt like it was just Kelly and I, talking to each other again for the first time – something that you can never do after 6 years together. The questions that Marianne asked us gave genuine reactions – some were laughter, some tears – and the locations she picked were very good.
Doing the shoot in Fowey was an inspired idea by Kelly as it was where I proposed and where she grew up. It meant so much more this way.
And what can I say about the pictures. I have exactly one picture that I like of myself – smoking a cigarette, wearing sunglasses in Space nightclub in Ibiza, reminding me how cool I used to be. Well now I have almost 200 pictures that I would be happy to show anybody.
I cannot thank Marianne enough for a wonderful experience and Kelly for being my amazing wife!’

I can’t tell you how happy I am with the photos; Marianne is truly a superb photographer. When I received her parcel in the post I didn’t want to open it, as it was so beautifully packaged, but inside was a set of pictures that I will treasure forever. I am so stuck as to which ones I want to get blown up, but I think I will let Nik make the final call on that one. But for now I have them here and soon I will get them made up into a book that I can keep for ever.

Looking at your wedding pictures years after it happened (and yes 2  years does count as years to me) can make you think about the things you would do differently, which is never a good idea! admittedly there are a few things I would change about my wedding knowing what I know now about the wedding industry……but overall my wedding was perfect! and the main thing about is that I married my gorgeous husband Nik!

Looking back on it I realise that it’s not the little details that make a wedding, it’s the people getting married and the marriage itself. I think people get so caught up in the wedding planning and get stressed out about the overall appearence of the day itself, that they loose sight of why they are getting married in the first place!…..I know this because I did it! I was consumed by my wedding for 18 months and once it had been and gone I didn’t know what to do with myslef….so I became a wedding planner.

The first year of marriage was hard, anyone who tells you marrige dosn’t change the realtionship is a liar because it does! Me and Nik had a tough first year of marriage for one reason or another, but I’m pleased to say that our 2nd year of marriage has been amazing. I love him more now than I have ever done! he really is the best thing in my life and I just can’t imagine life without him.

So I’d like to dedicate this post to Nik and say thank you for the last year, you have been amazing, so supportive and so patient! I hardly have any time for you at the moment yet you are always there for me when I need you and always go that extra mile to make sure I’m happy. You have sacrificed so much for me, I just want you to know that you are truly appreciated and loved with every bit of my heart!

…………………….so enouigh of the slushy stuff and on with the wedding!

Nik  proposed to me on September 1st 2007, we were in Cornwall which is where I’m from originally and we were standing facing the sea, looking at my favorite view in the whole world

After planning the majority of our wedding to be held in a Marquee in Cornwall we then decided we wanted a less conventional wedding, something that was a bit more ‘us.’ so I canceled the church,  the marquee, the photographer, the catering, the florist, the VW camper and planned the 2nd version of our big day!
We both love clubbing and had been to Ibiza on several occasions, so decided that it was the perfect location for us, and still close enough to the UK for our friends and family to attend. The following October 2008 we went across to Ibiza to meet my wedding planner and after 3 days we had our venue, minister and catering all sorted.

The laws in Spain don’t allow you to get married unless one of you is Catholic, which neither Nik or I are so we went for a blessing in Ibiza instead. This meant that we had to have a civil ceremony in England and get the wedding blessed in Ibiza. We did this a couple of weeks before the wedding in Ibiza on Nik’s Birthday. We went down to Cornwall to make it a bit more special with 6 guests , to us it was just the ‘paper work’ that made the Ibiza wedding possible.

We decided on a Villa wedding opposed to a beach venue as the Villa gave us more privacy and it meant that the whole thing was ours for 2 weeks ( we both felt like rock stars!)

So on 16th June 2009 at 6pm I married my husband Nik. It really was the best day of my life. The weather was incredible; we actually had a heat wave while we were there! Luckily I had got personalised paper fans for all the wedding guests as favors, which helped keep them a bit cooler. With invitations and order of service from ever after designs.

I wore an Alfred Sung , Grecian style, empire line dress, and Nik wore a white Linen suite, the jacket stayed on for about 30 minutes……….it was so hot!!

The colour scheme was white and yellow. The Bridesmaids wore Miss Sixty kneelength dresses, I wanted to keep them looking funky and up to date. My Bouquet was Phalianopsis orchids with yellow centers and Pale yellow Gerberas, (maybe it could have done without the gerberas!) the bridesmaids had hand tied pale yellow Gerberas.

I walked down the isle to Adel ‘feel my love’ (I chose it before it had got attached by X Factor) we had a wonderful lady carry out the blessing, who I can not recomend enough! ! We had 2 readings and we wrote our own vows. I would advise anyone to write you own vows. It is a bit daunting at first thinking that you have to come up with something heartfelt, but it is so well worth it on the day. Our vows were so personal to us; there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!! the we signed the register to  Stevie Wonder ‘All I do’

After the ceremony we moved up to the pool area for photosand pomegranate champagne and canapés.

We decided to have the speeches before the food, so Nik and the best man could relax. The food was amazing,  Spanish tapas to start and then a main of sea bass or chicken The desert was the wedding cake which was strawberry and blueberry cheesecake. (although Nik is allergic to starwberries, something that the catering company forgot when makeing the cake, so he didn’t get to eat any of it!)

It didn’t need much décor as the Pool area was so beautiful, there were loads of trees and natural flowers around; we just had Phalianopsis orchids for the table centers wrapped inside a clear vase, with loads of tea lights dotted around the area.

The whole mood of the day was totally relaxed. Even though there was a tight time line that I had put together, none of the guests had a clue. It was totally informal and chilled out. just as we liked it!

After the food we had a DJ called Brian who plays at Space night club (where we had gone a couple of days before for our joint hen and stag do) he was amazing. All our guests were dancing, even my mum! He played all or favorite dance tracks and kept everyone dancing round the pool till the early hours.The party carried on till about 5am with most of us ending up in the pool…including Nik who decied it wa a good idea to jump in the pool in just his white boxers..which then went see through!..Nice!

We had a truly amazing time. One piece of advice I would  give to you is to make sure you book your photographer till it gets dark and you get some dancing pictures in, ours just stayed till the speeches which were before the meal and then the starter, after that I had to rely on my friends to take the evening pictures…which as you know is never a good idea!

I keep saying to Nik we will have to renew our vows there in a few years time, I say 5 years, he says he can’t see the point! but I will work my magic I’m sure. I now plan weddings out there myself so I’m pretty sure I could come up with something fabulous, just the two of us and maybe a few close friends!

Sam's on the beach

It was great spending some time with my lovely Husband Nik though and we managed to get a bit of sight seeing in while we were away, as well as eating some lovely food!! (my favourite subject after weddings)

My Mum lives in a little village called Tywardreath, about 3 miles away from Fowey, while we were there we had a lovely meal at Sams on the beach

We also went to Charlestown to look at the tall ships.

The next day we Took a day trip to Lizard Point the most southerly point in the UK.

Then had another lovely meal at Sams.

Sam’s  is my favourite place to eat in the world, they do an amazing selection of fish, shell fish and burgers……the scallops are amazing, as is the lobster!!

After 4 days in Cornwall travelled up to Chipping Sodbury to visit our friends Nicky and Stu, then the next day went across to Bristol for Nik’s Birthday where we had a great day and a wonderful night at the Hotel Du Vin.It was also our technical wedding anniversary (our legal wedding is 2nd June, our official wedding anniversary to celebrate our wedding in Ibiza 16th June) so we celebrated that at the same time as Nik’s Birthday.
The meal we had at the Hotel Du Vin was outstanding, I would highly recommend it!

All in all we had a lovely time, it was great to get away!
Now it’s back to the life of Boho.I have lot’s going on over the next few weeks, it certainly is a busy time!!

I also now have a self hosted Blog thanks to the wonderful Mark Skeet, so expect lots of changes over the next few weeks as well!!……….watch this space!!!
