Today I have a beautiful wedding for you, as I take you off to Key West in Florida for the gorgeous wedding of Kristen and Ben who were married on 19th January 2018. This wedding has so many things that I love. A beautiful beach side outdoor wedding, a delightful first look, lovely decoration, a delicious donut bar with personalised take away bags and my favourite protea and orchids. The whole wedding is super glamorous but mixed with a good dash of boho chic. All captured perfectly by Freas Photography.
How they met and the proposal
My fiancé and I met through mutual friends and went to high school in neighboring towns. The first day we met we were actually at a local sandbar on the boat with his best friend and my close friend who I work with. The proposal happened four years later on the beach in front of the Casa Marina in Key West where he spelled out ” Marry Me?” in red rose petals on the beach. As soon as that happened I knew I wanted to get married in Key West.
The dress
The first time I tried on wedding dresses at Olivia Bowen bridal boutique I knew right away that I didn’t want to have a traditional wedding day style. I went with the Australian based designer Made with Love for my gown who I feel made the ultimate dress by incorporating a natural color pattern into the dress but still the traditional feel with an all lace gown. The off white beaded tassel earrings I chose brought home the boho feel by perfectly pairing with the lace overlay of the gown. Bella Luxe hair and makeup completed the look with what appeared to be a braided updo and natural palate for makeup selection.
Theme or colour scheme
Our wedding had a “boho meets beach” feel. I wanted the centerpiece to be the spectacular view of the ocean and sunset at Southernmost House yet I still wanted to incorporate elegant gold touches with a lot of greenery.
Details and Decoration
The space was decorated with round tables and white linens for the guest’s poolside and a farmhouse sweetheart table for the groom and myself. We incorporated gold centerpieces with accent greenery wreathes for half of the guest’s tables and the other half had pedestal vases with protea, roses and greenery. Our sweetheart table featured a natural wood beaded candelabra.
Flowers
The florals in the bridal bouquets consisted of mostly eucalyptus off white roses, blushing bride protea and orchids. They played a huge part in incorporating the bohemian theme.
Personal Touches
I personalized the wedding with a gourmet donut bar including fresh fried donuts and just about any topping imaginable. The self serve bar included custom “to-go” bags that read “Glazed and delicious from the new Mr and Mrs”
Special Moments
The most anticipated moment for me was seeing Ben, my fiancé’s face, when we had the first look. It is just such a special moment to know that your about to commit to that person for life and I’m so glad Mike was able to capture that so well.
Advice for other couples
The best advice I could give a future bride would be to hire a wedding planner (especially if you are trying to plan a destination wedding). We had some major setbacks throughout the wedding planning process- Hurricane Irma- and along with that came two changes of venue, date changes, vendor changes, guest list changes and multiple invitations. Even though you may think you don’t want to spend the money, it was well worth it for my sanity. Nicole from Simply You weddings was a rock star!
