As we reach the middle of the week with the weekend getting closer, I’m taking you to Bramley in Surrey for this super pretty barn wedding, courtesy of Mr Sleeve. Nicola and Ryan chose a beautifully summery day to get married, and their colour scheme of peach, copper and white was absolutely perfect for this beautiful summer wedding. The soft and romantic peach accents make the whole day, with flowers playing a heavy part in the venues decoration. With a laid back vibe, this barn wedding is filled with great food, giant balloons, DIY decoration and lots of happy guests. Perfect!
Nicola and Ryan were married on 1st June 2017 at Gate Street Barn, Bramley in Surrey. ‘The venue is absolutely beautiful with a relaxed feel and lovely staff. It’s also a really good size for the number of guests that we had. In total it took 2-years to plan for 65 guests.’
How they met
We met through a friend at a party over 10 years ago. We’ve been together for 9 years.
The Proposal
We were on a mini break for Ryan’s Birthday in Norfolk staying in a barn with fields of cows out the back – not unlike our wedding venue. We went for a walk in the early evening through the fields and Ryan started acting very strangely, then got down on one knee in the mud!
How did you allocate your budget?
We wanted to choose the venue first, and then work out how much we’d have to spend afterwards. To be honest, we weren’t the best at keeping to a strict budget and were willing to spend more when it felt right.
Where did you splurge and how did you save?
We spent the most on food, as this was an important part of the day for us, the emphasis being on guests having a good time! I also knew I wanted a lot of flowers so I allocated quite a bit to this, but we kept costs down a bit by having a small number of guests and made DIY decorations and favours. I also chose to skip a wedding car as we were staying at the same venue all day. Plus I found some great bridesmaid dresses on ASOS which saved us a bit.
Why did you choose your photographer?
We liked Steve’s (Mr Sleeve) relaxed and personal style of photography and we wanted to capture guests having a good time on the day. When Ryan met with Steve he felt they clicked and Steve understood our brief perfectly. We also liked the fact that we got two photographers for the price of one!
The Dress
I found my perfect dress after much searching in a little boutique called Luellas in Wimbledon Village. The dress is by Inbal Raviv and fit my personal style and the style of the wedding perfectly. The shoes were from Charlotte Mills and I wore a simple rose gold necklace and real flowers in my hair.
The Suit and the Bridesmaids
The suits were all matching grey numbers from Next and the bridesmaid dresses were from ASOS.
Theme or colour scheme
White, peach, copper and lots of green foliage!
Flowers
Peonies, David Austin Roses, Hydrangeas, foliage all by Topiary Tree.
Decoration
Balloons and tassels! We also had a lemonade stand and some vintage deck chairs and props as well as copper lanterns, vases and tealights
Food
We had an anti-pasti sharing platter for starter, followed by steak and chips and then a trio of desserts. We had the fabulous My Tinderbox make pizzas in their wood-fired oven for the evening.
Wedding Cake
3-tiered naked cake with lemon drizzle, Victoria sponge and rhubarb and ginger flavours. We also had smores kits as our favours and lit a fire pit in the evening to enjoy these.
Entertainment
Motown Gold live band
Personal Touches
We spent hours making the tassel garlands! We also sprayed a large frame with copper paint and hung rows of string inside for our polaroid photo book.
Special Moments
Having photo’s on the vintage bus which took guests to our venue, dancing to Motown Gold, getting ready with the girls in the morning, and of course, walking down the aisle. I also really enjoyed the smores in the evening!
Advice for other couples
Agree a time that the two of you can escape from the madness and have some time alone, otherwise you literally won’t see each other all day. Otherwise just embrace every moment and try not to stress about the small things as they won’t matter on the day.
Biggest Surprise
How calm I felt before and during the ceremony. I really surprised myself. Also the weather was great, we were so lucky!

I’m a photographer based in Manchester but working everywhere and anywhere I can. I love finding new venues and locations to challenge me creatively and always look to capture the real essence of every wedding I shoot. Natural, relaxed and emotive might be a few words to describe my style, but I’d check out the testimonials from some of my other weddings to see what they say about me and the photos I take.
Lovely venue and images!
