Today we are heading over to Latvia for this totally stunning and beautiful barn wedding. Matīss and Laura wanted a simple and minimalist wedding, with the main focus being on their love and connection together. They found a beautiful church and then a camp site venue, with a newly built barn that would hold their natural looking, rustic wedding, while allowing them to hold the vegan wedding they wished for. The wedding has been sent into me by Laura’s wedding dress designer Katya Katya and I have to say her dress is truly stunning, what a beautiful creation. Big thanks also to Riverside Films for the amazing images.
Laura and Matīss were married on the 25th of August 2017 at Sārnates baptist church, Sārnate, Latvia followed by a reception at Camp site “Ganības”, Užava, Latvia. ‘Together we made a trip to both places. Both are in country side of Latvia. Sārnates baptist church is really beautiful, old, wooden church built almost 100 years ago. It is located just few hundred meters from a cliff that overlooks shore of the Baltic sea. Camp site “Ganības” was a perfect option for our wedding reception. It is located near ceremony site and as well next to the sea. It is quite scenic – Užava river running through. The newly built “Barn” had just the stage equipment, lighting and seating for our occasion. There was enough cabins for the stay of all of our guests. We had 70 guests and and our engagement was exactly one year before. We had enough time to have low-intensity planning.’
How they met
We met in a church youth event. I (Matīss) saw the blond haired, always smiling girl that came with her friends. The “click” happened in me. I asked her out, we spent time together got to know each other better. After five years we got married.
The Proposal
I (Matīss) managed to get a private tour from a family friend. It was in the “Castle of Light” – newly build National Library of Latvia. “Castle of Light” is based on a latvian play about a boy who manages to reach the top of “Glass Mountain” despite numerous obsticles. On the summit lives the princess in the Castle of Light. So… when we were at the top floor of the library – thats where I pulled out the ring.
How did you allocate your budget?
We saved our finances starting from our time of engagement. Our families helped to fill the gaps in the budget. Also, at the whole start – we wanted this to be a celebration of our families, friends and church. We got everyone involved. Preparation, decorations, logistics etc. was split in tasks for everyone. Later everyone had great joy of the one thing they had to do which they saw in the wedding. This type of approach really cut the costs of numerous things.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Since many people helped we had not much of struggle with balancing the budget. Biggest costs were location and food.
Why did you choose your photographer?
Riverside films × photography are good friends of ours. We new their quality of work and professionalism.

Wow, the pictures are surreal. This is why we always wanted to make sure we get a professional creative photographer because we really want some nice photos to remember our wedding by.
