Freyja and Vicki’s Pug Friendly Leeds Wedding with Two Ceremonies by Stott and Atkinson

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and enjoyed a lovely bank holiday weekend. I hope the weather was kind to you and you managed to enjoy some sunshine. We are back with a 4 day week, so you know its going to be a good one! We are starting off with this wonderful same-sex wedding, held in Leeds. To have the wedding they really wanted Freyja and Vicky held two ceremonies, a short civil ceremony and then a gorgeous humanist ceremony, while their pet pugs joined them in the celebrations. Stott and Atkinson have captured their day perfectly, with accents of blue and teal and lots of personal touches.

It was the best day of our lives surrounded by everyone we love. We hope was laid back and relaxed and reflected us.

Freyja and Vicki were married on the 2nd July 2016 in a civil ceremony at Leeds Civic Hall followed by a Humanist Ceremony and Reception at  Left Bank, Leeds performed by the wonderful Christine Berrisford. ‘We could not recommend this lady more highly! Left Bank is beautiful, unique, near our home and our friends and family and we could provide our own food and wine, which wasn’t possible at other venues. Also, we could bring the dogs which was a deal breaker. We had about 100 guests for the day and 200 for the evening. The wedding took about 9 months to plan.’

How they met
We met 6 years ago at a series of leaving parties when Vicki’s bridesmaid Carly moved to home to Canada.

The Proposal
We went to Ripon for a weekend away. I had asked Vicki to marry me several times, only to be given the response ‘eventually’. To be fair, we both probably tired of my proposals, so I gave Vicki a break and she asked me in our hotel room. So convinced was I that it was never going to happen, I didn’t really believe what was going on. We celebrated by calling friends and family and drinking lots of champagne.

How did you allocate your budget?
Vicki is really great at being a responsible adult, so she made a beautiful spreadsheet. Some of the things, like engagement rings, we didn’t take out of our budget because we wanted to spend more money on things like that. We sourced our own food and wine so we could do things our own way. We also made our own invitations and wedding stationary. Our music, venue, photographers, food and clothing were important as they’re the things that represent us so that’s where a lot of our budget went.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Really good photographers were very important as we wanted our day captured perfectly, so we spent quite a bit on them. Freyja’s suit was expensive because she wanted it to be just right. Our bridesmaid dresses were important too and we think they all liked them. We paid quite a bit for the band and they were amazingly worth it. We had a vintage bus which was also fantastic but amazing. We sourced our own wine from Spain (Vicki’s parents live there), hired an outside caterer and got our DJ through local connections. We also made our own wedding invitations and stationary and our friend Dawn made our beautiful cake. We made our own seating labels, bought pot plants for the tables and only had button-holes for the suit wearers. We got the cheese from Costco!

How did you choose your photographer?
We found a photographer whose style we really liked, but he was busy so recommended Tim and Paul. They’re amazing guys and great photographers and so skilled at their jobs. They’re friendly and non-pressuring and create such beautiful photos. They also deserve an award for spending so much time with us and our families. To be honest, they felt like other guests at the wedding.  One of the loveliest parts of the day was when Paul drove me (Freyja) to the hotel where we were staying to drop off our bags then went back via our house so I could change into my converse for the evening do. It was unnecessary of him to do that and a welcome break from the intensity of the day and a massive relief to get out of my brogues! Because there were two of them, they were able to capture both of us getting prepared which was wonderful. We look forward to the next event where they can take photos and we can hang out with them.

The Fashion
Vicki: Adrianna Papell dress from House of Fraser, shoes by Next, cardigan by Wallis, hair accessories made by Vicki. Family jewellery. Underwear by Victoria’s Secret
Freyja: Bespoke suit and shirt by A Suit That Fits (with a Groupon!), Brogues by the Lyme Bay Clothing Company, socks by Ralph Lauren. Underwear by Marks and Spencer. Personalised pocket watch by the UK Gold Company.
Hugo and Otto’s leads and harnesses by Red Dingo. Bow ties were extremely cheap from ebay!

Bridesmaids
The bridesmaids wore their own variations on the Audrey swing dress from Honey Pie Boutique which were made to measure. They accessorised with their own things as we wanted their personalities to shine through.

Theme or Colour Scheme
We wanted it to be cosy and to represent us. It was simple and homely and Scandi themed. Our main colours were blue and teal.

Flowers
The suit wearers at the wedding wore button holes, other than that we just had pots of growing flowers in pots of the tables: salvia and busy lizzies which were bought at a local garden centre by a family friend as a present for us.

Decoration
Flowers in pot pants on the table. Drapes and fairy lights supplied by the venue. Left Bank is such a beautiful place, that less is more. That said, we did have our initials in giant light up letters by Elite Sound in Leeds.

Food
Lovely food delivered by lovely serving staff, but the company really messed us around after the event, which is a real shame. In the evening we had a cheese wedding cake bought from Costco and a pork pie wedding cake made by the amazing Wilson’s Pies.

Wedding Cake
Our amazing friend Dawn Edwards at Confarreatio Cakes.

Entertainment
An amazing brass band called Drum and Brass. They were incredible.  and a friend of ours, Adrian Payle, from Sandinista and Smokestack DJ’d.

Stationery
We made our own with lots of brown paper and card and our trusty printer

Personal Touches
We made our table place names, stationary, bought our own flowers from a garden centre. Our friends and family are so important and a big part of our lives and of the day and so is Leeds so it was important that everything was quite personal and locally sourced where possible.

Special Moments or Highlights
It was just the best day of our lives, everything came together – even the rain was beautiful. It was pretty amazing to realise we were married!

Advice for Other Couples
We would say start early and do things gradually and hopefully you can get away without getting too stressed. Compromise and delegate where you can. Create a joint email address so your emails are all in one place and create a bookmark folder for all your links. Remember, everyone at your wedding loves you and wants nothing but the best for you so don’t waste energy getting anxious. Whatever happens in the run up and if things aren’t how you planned, it simply won’t matter!

Biggest Surprise
It’s hard to say, but there was a great moment captured by Tim and Paul when we were having our first dance, pretty engrossed in it, and we turned round to see everyone watching us. The feeling of love from everyone was amazing.
