Laura and Richard’s Pretty White Nottingham Tipi Wedding by Captured by Katrina

Today we are heading across Nottingham for this gorgeous tipi wedding from Captured by Karina. Laura and Richard were lucky enough to hold the reception in Richard’s parents garden and the results are this pretty rustic, quintessential English tipi wedding. With lots of handmade details and gorgeous white decoration, from the flowers to the bunting, this wedding is elegant and rustic all at the same time.

The most amazing day of our lives, everything was just how we wanted it.

Laura and Richard were married on the 11th June 2016 in at ceremony at Holy Trinity Bulcote Church Nottingham, followed by a reception on Richard’s parents property in the garden. ‘We wanted a casual, relaxed, down to earth wedding where we controlled as many aspects as possible to make the whole day feel as personal as possible and could give everyone an extension of our personalities. We were able to get people we know to get involved with helping with the flowers, the decorating and the catering too. We had 95 guests and we planned casually over our years engagement. The tipi/church was booked early on, but the 6 months before the wedding was when everything else started happening.’

How they met
We met at Loughborough University in 2004 and have been together 11 years.

The Proposal
As we are currently living in Sydney Australia, we hired a boat on the Pittwater (Sydney Northern Beaches) pulled up on private beach with food and drink and he proposed relaxing on a little beach.

How did you allocate your budget?
We had a budget in mind from the beginning, and tried to stick to if as best as we could, with a lot of researching for the best/but cost effective way of doing things. A spreadsheet was a must!

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We didn’t really splurge on one particular item but I think we saved a lot by doing some of the smaller items ourselves i.e. flowers, invites, wedding stationary etc. The most expensive bit of our wedding was the tipi hire but that was what we wanted and was really important for our wedding day.

Why did you choose your photographer?
We did a lot of searching looking at a friend’s wedding photos (may want to call it stalking) and we came across one person in particular that we really liked and stood out to us because she captured everything we were looking for in our own photos. After looking at Katrina’s website and chatting via email I knew she was exactly what we were looking for, and I was right. A very talented photographer with a beautiful fun nature, that just made the photo sessions with her on the day so fun. Everyone that attended our wedding loved her as well, and barely new she was there half the time.

The Dress
Dress was by Martina Liana bought in London, shoes were by Rachel Simpson, accessories was family jewellery.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
Suit was by Reiss and the bridesmaids dresses were from Witchery in Australia.

Theme or Colour scheme
With the rustic look of the tipi we wanted to break it up with lots of bright white accessories. This included lots of white flowers everywhere, white lanterns hanging over the dance floor, and white bunting in the tipi. Along with the tipi supplying the white fairy lights everywhere this all worked really well, simple but what we wanted.

Flowers
I had lots of white hydrangeas, white roses, green foliage and gypsophila.

Decoration
White bunting and lanterns in the tipi but a range of straw bails, homemade painted signs, festoon lighting.

Food
Our caterer (James Wright) did a wonderful job. We had canapés and arrival drinks with Mini goats cheese & blush tomato tarts; Avocado, roasted red pepper & cream cheese tortilla roulades; Chicken skewers.
For our main menu we had an antipasti board starter, a main course of char-grilled chicken breast in lemon&thyme with roasted tomato sauce. For dessert we had platters of lemon tarts and cheesecakes served with berries and cream.
Then later on we had sausage sandwiches on the BBQ.

The Wedding Cake
A two tiered sponge cake by one of the bridesmaids (Emma Emmott) and a traditional fruit cake by the groom’s Aunty Jill

Entertainment
A folk band found on tailored entertainment

Stationery
I designed all the stationery and did it all myself

Personal Touches
Everything really, I designed how we wanted it to look in conjunction with Peak Tipi and pretty much designed everything else myself around the tipi in a field idea.

Marriage is like a chemical reaction where two elements interact with each other and totally different compounds are created. I can’t wait to see what compounds await you in your long life together. Congratulations to two of the most wonderful people I know!
