Festival-Style Folk Bands

Mumford and Sons are single-handedly responsible for a resurgence in the popularity of folk music and the trend for festival-style entertainment at weddings shows no sign of abating any time soon. A perfect fit for a laid back bohemian themed wedding, folk bands have an aesthetic all of their own: rural chic outfits and weatherworn traditional instruments such as banjos, cajons, double bass, acoustic guitar and accordion. Festival-style bands are a versatile choice, able to conjure a mellow vibe during the afternoon drinks before packing the dance floor at the evening reception with an energetic set comprising upbeat pop folk, clever folkified interpretations of contemporary chart songs and, for those romantic moments, the timeless beauty of traditional ballads.

Modern Pop/Dance Crossover

The image of the cheesy wedding band playing tired old songs (Agadoo anyone?) still persists, but it should be consigned to history along with the clichéd dance floor clearing tunes. Wedding bands have come a long way, striving for ever higher levels of professionalism and musicianship, and incorporating the latest technology to deliver a truly spectacular live performance that’s fit to grace any stage. Modern Pop/Dance crossover bands utilise cutting edge programmed light shows, custom video backdrops and a repertoire featuring the likes of Avicii, Calvin Harris, Rudimental and Sigma to create an exciting, up-tempo party experience – ideal for cool couples looking to evoke a trendy nightclub vibe at their evening reception. We’re also seeing more and more bands incorporating elements of hip hop and R’n’B into their acts to reflect current tastes.

Vintage Swing

Vintage style acts are another popular trend in recent years that shows no sign of diminishing. Vintage acts bring glamour and sophistication to an occasion: dapper guys and demure ladies attired in the finest Gatsby-esque fashion and equipped with authentic instruments to achieve that perfect swinging sound. Vintage Swing acts are available in a range of line-ups to suit any budget or venue, from cosy duos to stage-packing big bands complete with full horn section. The swing repertoire is varied enough to provide a superb night’s entertainment, but some acts also perform their own unique jazzy spin on modern tracks. What could be better than a charismatic Frank Sinatra style Rat Pack singer charismatically crooning your first dance? Come midnight, you know you and your friends and family will be in a circle on the dance floor, arms slung over one another’s shoulders, legs kicking in unison, as you belt out an unforgettable rendition of “New York, New York”.

Roaming Bands

Free yourself from the constraints of cables with a roaming band. Roaming bands play acoustic instruments, leaving them free to wander amongst your guests for a performance with a difference. These unplugged musicians are proving popular with couples hosting a rustic-style outdoor afternoon reception. Picture the scene – guests reclining on hay bales under cloudless blue skies, sipping on ice cold drinks and enjoyed treats from bespoke picnic hampers, as the roaming band strolls amongst them adding to the ambience with a relaxed selection of summery songs. Roaming bands come in various genres including pop, folk and, for something a little different, mariachi bands! A roaming band can tailor their tunes to suit the tastes of specific groups of people, providing a personal touch that your guests are sure to appreciate.

High End Super-Bands

The best of the best. These incredible acts don’t come cheap, but they’re worth every penny. The most talented musicians, the most charismatic vocalists, the most advanced stage equipment and lighting. High end bands feature multiple vocalists, driving rhythm section and a complete brass section, creating a rich, textured sound, as well as an impressive visual spectacle. Musically, high end bands come in a range of genres, but tend to be pop and rock or funk and soul orientated to maximise their appeal for the varied tastes present at the typical wedding. Super-bands take inspiration from live tours by the likes of Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars, where the incredible showmanship of the lead artist is enhanced exponentially by inventive arrangements of songs, performed by world class musicians. They’re not content to simply play the tracks as they were recorded, instead they inject improvisation and inspiration, weaving in subtle homages to other artists creating a flow of music that sweeps audiences away and helps them lose their inhibitions on the dance floor.
