Alice and Andrew’s Elegant and Rustic Yorkshire Farm Wedding by Nicola J Fine Art Photography

When you own a farm what else is there to do than hold your own wedding on it! Alice and Andrew had a truly rustic wedding with a sprinkling of elegance thrown in for good measure and the results are beautiful. Sunshine, tractors, hay bales, an outdoor ceremony and plenty of handmade projects and pretty details, all go to making this Yorkshire farm wedding the perfect way to end the week. Thanks to Nicola J Fine Art Photography for the lovely images.

Overwhelming in every sense of the word.  Totally us, totally perfect and everything we could have wanted it to be.

Alice and Andrew were married on the 16th July 2016, at Little Wold Vineyard, South Cave. ‘We are very fortunate to own this little corner of land the Yorkshire Wolds, it’s totally beautiful and being a farmers daughter I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else but outside. We had 112 adults in the day (plus around 8 children)  and in the night time about 160. It took about 10 months in total (from engagement to wedding day) but in all honesty I think I had it planned in my head within the first 20 minutes of saying yes.’

How they met
We met through a friend who did some match making.  We got chatting on social media and then decided to meet and the rest is history as they say.  Andy proposed on our 4th anniversary, so were heading into year 5 now!

The proposal
Andy had it all planned, I knew we were going away but he had kept it all very hush hush as to where we were going.  On the morning of our departure his mum let it slip we were going to Manchester, or so I thought.  As we drove towards Manchester I noticed we weren’t going towards the city centre but to the airport! Dublin was in fact to be our final destination.  When we arrived Andy had suggested a walk down to the bars but knowing the heels I had brought advised against it (little did I know WHY he wanted to walk).  As I was getting ready I came out the bathroom to find him on one knee.  I was in total shock, so much so I forgot to say yes…but not for long!

How did you allocate your budget?
We had an idea of how much we wanted to spend so mainly worked around that. We sourced and costed the ‘main things’ we needed then looked at what else we could afford and what we would have to cut back on.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
I have always wanted a pair of laboutins, so that was defiantly a spurge! But we saved on lots of things.  We did all our own decorations (tables decorations, flowers, seating plan, bunting etc) and I opted for an outlet dress rather than designer.  The guys also just wore a waistcoat which helped us save a little.

How did you choose your photographer?
I have always loved Nicola Jenkins work.  She had taken some pictures on the farm before which I fell in love with.  To be honest it was a no brainer.

The Dress
My dress from was Elite Bridal Outlet in Hull.  The nice thing was it was a brand new dress and I was the first to order it.  It was call ‘Alice’.  I have Laboutin shoes, something I will wear forever!

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The guys’ suits were all from Next.  I had the 9 bridesmaids so getting one dress for all was never going to be easy.  Instead I opted to have everyone different!  Six of the nine were made at a small boutique in Hessle called Bohimia and the other three were from Blonde and Wise.

Theme or colour scheme
Basically I liked four colours, so kind of based it around that.  Our theme I suppose was elegant-rustic.

Flowers
My mum did the flowers on the table, I asked for a fairly natural look.  My bouquet, hair piece and the button holes were made by a lady who specialised in lavender and home grown flowers.  We had some roses but mainly seasonal.  The bridesmaids pulled the short straw with flowers from Aldi I bought the night before as decided I wanted them to have some pretty last minute!

Decoration
Our farm used to produce lots of milk, so we dug out all the old milk bottles for flowers.  We had log slices, bunting, festoon lighting, lavender plants, I Do light up letters and lots of small straw bales.

Food
Shoot the Bull (Northern Street Food Winner of the Year) provided our catering for the daytime.  We had canapés to start followed by a blade of beef on horseradish mash, with savoy cabbage and greens.  Followed by chocolate brownie with popping candy on a pistachio soil (it was amazing). In the evening we had stone baked pizza’s and a cheese board.

Wedding Cake
I was very lucky to have my step mum make our wedding cake.  We have three cakes, a fruit cake, coffee cake and lemon cake.

Entertainment
The band were called Northern Vinyl and the DJ was from Club Class entertainment.  I can’t recommend them enough! The dance floor was full all night.

Stationery
My sister in law designed all our stationary (I’m very lucky to have such a talented family)

Personal Touches
We did loads ourselves, one of my favourite was our homemade home brews of sloe Gin, Lemonchello and various flavoured vodkas.   We used them as favours in little jars as shots and then on our DIY cocktail stations.  I also made an ‘our story’ board on a wooden pallet which I loved and our table plan.

Special moments or Highlights
There are so many! My dad picking me up and seeing his face as he saw me in my dress, the ceremony, the speeches, the dancing……having all the people we loved in one room.  Basically every second of it!

Advice for other couples
Don’t get into a panic about the things you think other people expect you to have.  Do what YOU want and how YOU want it.

Biggest Surprise
The overwhelming-ness of it all.  I’m not sure what I expected but honestly can’t explain how special it is feeling so loved!
