Happy Friday everyone! Am I glad it’s nearly the weekend! I hope you have that Friday feeling and have some fab plans for the weekend ahead of us. To finish off the week in style I have this smashing wedding from Fiona Kelly Photography. The wedding takes place at the Manor Barn in Petersfield, an elegant barn venue, that allowed Joanna and William to really put their own stamp in their day. With lots of stylish DIY touches, this wedding is brimming with gorgeous details and fabulous flowers.

‘For both of us, the day couldn’t have gone any better. It was an incredibly special day that we were able to enjoy with our closest friends and family!’

Joanna and William were married on 5th September 2015 at The Manor Barn, Buriton, Petersfield, Hampshire. ‘We visited a number of barn-like venues near to where we live (just outside Guildford) and the Manor Barn ticked all the boxes for us. It had the right atmosphere and character, was within budget and was large but intimate enough to host both ceremony and reception. Buriton’s also fairly central for both our friends and family who (mostly) live within a few hours of the village. We had 85 guests for the day (ceremony and wedding breakfast) and an extra 25 guests during the evening. We got engaged on 19th April 2014 and didn’t start seriously looking at venues until the summer. We planned for roughly 14 months before the wedding.’

How they met
Our families have known each other for as long as we’ve been alive but we grew up sharing the occasional summer together as children. We re-met as adults in 2009 and started dating a month later. We’ve been together ever since!

The Proposal
We spent a long weekend in Helensburgh in Scotland in April a few years ago. I’d bought the ring when we lived in Wimbledon in 2012 (Jo had not-so-subtly pointed one out she liked in a jeweller’s window one lazy weekend in Wimbledon village and I bought it a few weeks later) and took it with me on the off chance the situation would arise. We were driving back from a day trip out in the Highlands when Jo spotted Kilchurn Castle (15-17th century ruined castle on the shores of a Highland loch) from the car. We ventured to the castle and tried to watch the sunset and then I proposed by the castle door as we spotted a golden eagle flying overhead. It was amazing!

How did you allocate your budget
The three most important budget expenses were venue, food and photographer. If we’re being honest, alcohol also featured quite highly on our planned expenditure!

Where did you splurge and where did you save
We saved by making our own cake, decorations and stationery and using our village florist to do the flowers. We splurged on Wil’s suit, alcohol and the dream honeymoon!

How did you choose your photographer
We knew the style of photography we wanted (more casual/ reportage rather than formal) and searched firstly for local photographers and then had a few recommendations and kept searching until we found Fiona. We had a Skype chat and both knew fairly soon into the conversation that she was the photographer for us! Relaxed, approachable, kind and funny – she’s brilliant.

The Dress
My dress was by Essence of Australia from Bridal Boutique in Haslemere, my shoes were Ted Baker and accessories were a combination of family jewellery and my own.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
My three piece suit was made by Nathan Baker and the tailors at Tweed Addict. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Monsoon.

Theme or Colour Scheme
Our colour scheme was corals, golds, blues and greens. We didn’t really have a theme!

Flowers
I had a bouquet of dahlias, roses and other seasonal flowers. The groom, best men and ushers wore coral roses.

Decoration
We kept our decorations simple with flowers on the tables, along with coral or navy table runners. Over the area where we got married, we had rose heads and tea lights in tea light holders hanging from the wall. Our biggest decoration was probably the cake table, with wedding cake and assortment of cakes we and our friends and family had made.

Food
We started with parma ham and goats cheese salad, had fillet of beef with a braised ox cheek croquette and dauphinoise potatoes for main and panna cotta with seasonal summer fruits or chocolate marquise for pudding.

Wedding Cake
The wedding cake was a homemade three-tiered fruitcake that Jo iced and decorated.

Entertainment
During the wedding itself, we had songs we chose before, during and after the ceremony and signing. We had planned to play music during the meal but forgot! In the evening, a friend’s band played live music (for the first dance) in between music we’d chosen on a laptop.

The Stationery
Jo bought raw supplies (card and paper etc) and then made the stationery herself.

Personal or Handmade Touches
Stationery, wedding cake, seating plan, table runners, invites, table menus, table vases, thank you gifts (for bridemaid’s/ groomsmen), children’s activity packs, thank you book and probably more!

Special Moments
Getting married! Our friends readings during the ceremony, the speeches and having nearly all our friends and family there to celebrate with us!

Advice to other couples
Plan and budget everything to the minute detail. If you put in enough planning and prep time, the day itself will go off without a hitch!

Biggest surprise
Luckily there were no unexpected surprises – Jo had a wedding present I managed to keep secret so I guess that counts!
