Leanne and Kieran’s English Country Wedding Set Across 3 Venues, by Tux and Tales Photography

Yay, it’s nearly the weekend, only one day to go! I hope you are getting that pre Friday feeling, I certainly am! It’s been a stressful few weeks so I’m looking forward to a day off over the weekend to re-charge my batteries. Before we get to Friday though I have this lovely English country wedding brought to you courtesy of my good friends Jaye and Matt from Tux and Tales Photography. It’s a wedding that takes part over 3 venues in North Yorkshire, a super sunny day with a chilled, laid back feel to it. Hay bales, BBQ, and lots of dancing!

‘An informal, relaxed, fun, country feel wedding surrounded by the people we love. It was an extremely special day for us and one we hope stands out in our guests minds.’

Leanne and Kieran were married on 23rd May 2015 at The Sacred Heart Chapel on the Broughton Hall Estate in Skipton. After the service they headed to Eden on the Estate and then a vintage bus transferred them and all their guests to East Riddlesden Hall Photography for the evening celebrations. The Sacred Heart Chapel is a place where Kieran’s family have been visiting for many years and where other family members have got married. Eden House offered the relaxed atmosphere we wanted for the day and as we rented it for the full weekend, it offered a place for Leanne to stay the night before the wedding with the bridesmaids, and a place for us to stay for 2 nights after the wedding. With regards to East Riddlesden Hall, we fell in love with the barn –the beams, fairy lights and lake were just what we were looking for!  We didn’t want the ‘standard’ wedding with one venue, so we separated the day. Having two venues meant much more stress and organisation but on the day everything fell into place. We had 95 guests to the day and around 200 to the evening reception. We spent around 4-5 months looking at venues (we were very picky!) and then booked the venue 2 years in advance. It was a gradual process and the amount of time we gave ourselves gave us the opportunity to take each stage slowly and give more attention to the fine details.’

How they met
We have been together 10 years this year and got together when we were 18. We met and got together at school, where at the same time, shared the same part-time job.

The Proposal
We were touring the West Coast of America and while we were at the side of the Grand Canon Kieran got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. He was shaking but I started laughing! It was a giddy laugh at the situation. He said he had planned to do the proposal in the helicopter ride we had just been on above the Grand Canyon but as the helicopter had a glass bottom at the front, he chickened out as he’s scared of heights.

How did you allocate your budget
Booking our wedding 2 years in advance meant we could save for the wedding we really wanted. We were also saving to buy a house so it has been a very expensive year!
From day one we had a budget sheet on Excel where we estimated our costs based on research we had done on what photographers, flowers, DJs etc cost and tried to stick to the amounts we had set. We did go over budget on a number of items – not due to an under estimate, but because we saw items that we thought were worth extra money. We also ended up adding items to our list that we had not accounted for to start with. However, we did make savings and were under budget on a lot of items from shopping around – so overall we were on budget!

How did you choose your photographer
We looked at quite a few photographers portfolios but they weren’t what we were looking for. Then an old school friend’s wedding photos popped up on our Facebook newsfeed one day and they really caught our eye. They weren’t posed, but natural and fun which is what we had been looking for. From there we checked out Tux and Tales Photography portfolio and loved their work. We arranged a meeting straight away and went to meet Jaye and Matt at their home. We hit if off straight away and must have spent 2 hours chatting away. We reserved the date with them immediately – 18 months in advance!

The Dress
My dress was a lace and tulle fit-and-flare designer gown from the Justin Alexander
collection. It had a regal satin rolled collar, a satin basket weave cinched at the waist line, the
neckline back flowed into a chapel length train and it had satin buttons over the back zipper. I
fell in love with the dress and I felt elegant and beautiful when I wore it. The shoes were by
Jenny Packham, the pearl bracelet & earrings were from Highland Angel and the hair comb was
borrowed from Neha, a family member who wore it on her wedding day.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The ballet pink bridesmaid dresses from BHS. It took a while to find the right style and shade of pink that would suit all of the bridesmaids as they all vary in height and shape. The bridesmaids wore their own shoes and they all had matching pearl earrings and necklaces which I had purchased.
Kieran – It took a large amount of time to find the right suit. I was looking for a tweed style suit to fit in with the theme of our wedding. I ended up buying an ASOS own brand suit with waistcoats for the groomsmen. The ties were from Primark and extra were bought and cut up to fit in the suit/waistcoat top pockets.

Theme or Colour Scheme
We were working towards an English country style wedding – where the main colour was a dusky pink, which was seen in the bridesmaid dresses, flowers, groomsmen’s suits & bunting.

Flowers
Julia our local florist from Flower Couture was amazing and captured my ideas for the flowers down to a tee. They were rustic and gave the country feel I wanted. There was a whole range of flowers in the bouquets and the button holes contained some of the smaller flowers – Vintage lilac Amnesia rose, blush sweet Avalanche rose, pink Avalanche rose, blush garden O’hara rose, ivory Avalanche rose, pink Astilbe, pink Veronica, lilac Veronica, lilac Astrantia, pale pink waxflower, grey Brunia, foliage- eucalyptus.

Decoration
The Chapel already had lots of character so we only added flowers to the altar which we purchased from the supermarket and placed lanterns that we bought up the aisle leading to the altar. Likewise with Eden House, it’s full of character and needed little input from us – we only added hay bales & picnic blankets for our guests to sit on within the grounds of the house. For our evening party – despite East Riddlesden Hall Barn already having a lot of character too, we added our own touches. Kieran’s sister Shona who has a venue styling business (Something Borrowed Venue Styling) decorated the barn. We had lanterns inside and out, candelabras as centre pieces and a candy cart. We also bought bunting and wicker hearts which we hung from the beams. Hay bales were also placed here outside of the barn for people to sit on.

Food
We had a BBQ during the day of handmade sausages & burgers, grilled chicken, flat mushrooms for the vegetarians, with accompanying sides and salads. This was followed by homemade desserts that various family members had made plus cheese & crackers. We had a hog roast in the evening and a candy cart. Everyone loved this relaxed style of eating!

Wedding Cake
The wedding cake was made by a local lady who makes cakes as a hobby. It was a 3 tier sponge cake: plain victoria sponge, lemon drizzle and chocolate orange. It was covered with icing and decorated with handmade edible lace and pale pink & ivory sugared flowers. It looked elegant and tasted yummy!!

Entertainment
At Eden house during the BBQ, we had our own playlist of chilled out acoustic live sets, and at the evening party we had a DJ & Rock Band, Blue Star Tattoo. The photographers provided a photobooth during the evening.

The Stationery
Leanne – I had specific ideas for the invitations, rustic feel with bunting on the front. I am not very creative so these were bought. Name cards and a seating plan were not needed as our ‘Wedding Breakfast’ was informal. We made the order of service ourselves which proved to be a tricky task at first!

Personal or Handmade Touches
We added our own DIY touches to the barn – Kieran made a rustic sign with our names and wedding date on pointing to the barn doors, I created a collection of photographs from our favourite holidays and times together, our guest book had are names embroidered on the front and we had a basket of flip flops for those dancing feet that were hurting! Also, Kieran spent weeks running up the wedding making a playlist for Eden House – this was full of our favourite songs but all acoustic versions.

Special Moments
There were so many special moments and the whole day was a highlight. We had spent 2 years planning the wedding and it had come together just how we wanted. One personal thing that sticks out in my mind was when we were stood at the alter having a joke amongst ourselves giggling away like naughty school children. This was captured by the photographer and it is one of my favourite pictures of the day.

Advice to other couples
Give yourself a good amount of time to plan your wedding. The extra time we gave ourselves gave us time to make changes to initial thoughts and ideas we had. It also helped us by setting up a shared wedding email account for keeping track of all correspondence. Also, on the day – relax, stay calm and enjoy every moment. It’s over before you know it!

Biggest surprise
The weather! It was a beautiful sunny day and it wasn’t expected after many days of rain leading up to the wedding. This made our outside country feel wedding come true as all are guests could relax outside in the sun in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales. We even ended up having our speeches outside with Kieran stood on a hay bale!
