Wow its Thursday already, how did that happen? This week is speeding past for me, is it for you? I have another cracking wedding for you today courtesy of Jacqui McSweeney Photography. It’s a fun seaside wedding set on Brighton bandstand, a gorgeous day overlooking the beautiful ocean, with some lovely beach shots thrown in. The reception was held at Tim’s parents house with a french vintage theme, from shabby chic decor to the food. With lots of homemade touches this wedding is a real beauty from beginning to end.
Kim and Tim were married on 2nd August 2014. The ceremony was held on the Brighton Bandstand and the reception in a marquee at Tim’s parents house in Firle, a small village in East Sussex. ‘When I first saw the bandstand I knew that was where I wanted to get married and we had always imagined having our reception at Tim’s parents house, it’s such a beautiful place. We had 80-100 guests in total. We had a long engagement (2 years), so we were able to take things slowly planning wise, think about what we wanted, save and really enjoy everything we were doing. It was no hassle at all. I loved planning it.’
How they met
We met at uni and had been together 10 years when we got married.
The Proposal
It was long-awaited!
How did you allocate your budget
Photography, food and music were the most important things to us, so we made the decision to splurge on these, but otherwise we just tried to be thrifty and creative
How did you choose your photographer
We loved Jacqui’s informal and laid back style. She seemed to share our passion for Brighton, Firle and family. We couldn’t have asked for a lovelier person to capture the spirit of our day.
The Dress
My dress was by Lusan Mandongus. My accessories and shoes were all from high street shops.
The Suit and Bridesmaids
All high street. Tim’s suit was from Marks and Spencers. The bridesmaids dress were from different outlets in Debenhams and the flower girl’s dress was from H&M.
Theme or Colour Scheme
French vintage, with a nod to the seaside.
Flowers
My mum and I made the bouquets, buttonholes and arranged flowers for each table using dried flowers and grasses. I grew Rubekias, Cornflowers and Sunflowers which we used to decorate the marquee
Decoration
Lots and lots of flowers (dried and fresh) in enamel jugs, Apple crates, old suitcases, a wheel barrow, bunting…..many of our decorations were sourced from Closet and Botts, a lovely shop in Lewes, which sells vintage homewares.
Food
Our menu was french inspired – savoury tart and salads for the starter, chicken chasseur, rustic chips and veggies for the main course and a buffet french patisserie for dessert.
Wedding Cake
The cake was one of my favourite things. It was beautiful. Three layers; one fruit, one lemon, one carrot, decorated with sunflowers, lavender and bees.
Entertainment
The Swing Ninjas – an amazing swing band. They were so fun
Buy or DIY your Stationery
DIY. Tim’s Dad designed our save the date cards and invitations
Personal or Handmade Touches
We did nearly everything ourselves with the help of our families – the invites, the table plan, the place cards, the bunting, the flowers….and the clearing up the next day
Special Moments
I loved every single moment, but some that stand out are the moment my dad saw me in my dress, the moment I arrived at the bandstand to see everyone gathered there, being driven around Brighton with Tim and everyone waving at us, and dancing to Come on Eileen at 4am
Advice to other couples
The people you invite to your wedding are people that you love and who love you, so if you have a good time, they will have a good time too
Biggest surprise
Tim arranged for my favourite singer/songwriter, Fiona Bevan to come and play at our ceremony. Definitely the most romantic and special thing that he has ever done.
