From an early age my mother and both grandmothers encouraged and taught me to draw, knit, sew, crochet and also embroider when I was little. In certain age, after earning my psychology degree and settling my career in Human Resources, I realized I am still missing something. So I started to create again and slowly moved to millinery as its techniques range from shaping, sewing to embellishing and trimming, possibilities are endless.
I have chosen a great teacher – Rose Cory, royal milliner to late Queen Mum, also called the “milliners’ milliner”. She taught me couture millinery techniques with attention to the elaborate details. Every flower and every leaf is handmade by me, using traditional millinery technique and my own patterns. I also make my own hat blocks for blocking cocktail hats, which make my designs really unique.
Premium quality fabrics, pure silks, feathers and millinery material come from shops in London, where I like to travel. Much of my inspiration is from these materials and also from my customers when working on bespoke hats. My biggest motivation for my work are lovely pictures of happy brides with my accessories.
I am based in Slovakia, in the heart of Europe, as we Slovaks always say. To start selling my products online was the best decision ever, as since then I have worked with customers from Europe, US, Australia and even Asia and South America. Receiving emails and wedding pictures from happy brides form all over the world is very rewarding.
I started to create hair accessories after I opened a shop with ball dresses in our capital. Every time the customers put the dress on and had a look in the mirror I explained it will look much different with appropriate accessory. Then I better made a few headband samples, which sold quite quickly, so it was a big motivation for me to start.
All of my hats and hair accessories are hand made from the scratch, I make all leaves and flowers myself using traditional millinery technique – each petal is hand cut, shaped and sewn together, I make my own hat blocks for cocktail hats. For larger brimmed hats I cooperate with british hat blocks maker. I also make my own patterns for flowers and leaves.
