Hannah and Guy’s Colourful Isle of Wight Garden Wedding. By Chris Cowley

Today’s wedding is bound to cheer up this cold wet February day, as it is FULL of sunshine, bright flowers and smiles! Hannah and Guy held their ceremony in Hannah’s mum’s back garden and what a beautiful laid back affair it was! Full of gorgeous flowers, deck chairs and so much sunshine, it looks like a wedding from a different country. This followed an equally relaxed drinks reception in the field next door. The whole day is completely chilled out and full of so much love and laughter. Many aspects of the day were DIY, including the decoration, flowers and stationery, while Hannah purchased her dress from Oxfam. A beautifully warm and inviting day photographed by Chris Cowley

‘The best; a wedding day and British summertime combined. Totally magical.’

Hannah and Guy were married on the 13th of October with the ceremony in Hannah’s Mum’s Garden and reception in marquee in her field in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight. ‘It was where Hannah grew up. We had 110 guests at the wedding took about 9 months to plan, with all the details done in the 2-3 month prior.’

How they met
We met sailing. Both crewing on the same boat 4 years before we got married

The proposal
On Hannah’s Birthday in Norway while on a sailing holiday. We had gone for an early morning swim and Guy popped the question in the water

How did you allocate your budget?
Biggest spends on marquee, catering and booze. Decorations, flowers, cake, transport were all a family affair and the dress came from Oxfam.

Why did you choose your photographer?
Chris’ photos best captured our idea of wedding photos of all the island photographers we came across

Special moments or highlights
We had a week before to prepare, the whole build up with our families was very exciting. Having all our friends and family together in such a special place on the hottest day of the year while we got married made us feel very lucky. Guy gave a very good speech

Advice for other couples
• Relax and enjoy the planning and the big day
• Take up offers of help
• We encouraged our guest to come for weekend, meeting in a pub the night before and hosting a bbq brunch the next day. This was brilliant as gave us time to catch up and properly see people while being able to focus on us too!
• Don’t stress too much about the guest list, generally the people you want to be there will be the ones who make the effort to come!

Beautiful pictures, is “the field next door” available for hire as a reception venue?!

    Hi, ?
A friend is looking for somewhere to hold her wedding reception next May 5th and your field looks exactly what she is looking for! Do you hire it out as a venue and if so how much would it cost?
