Diary of a Boho Bride – Carys and Aaron, Entry 7: 2 Weeks To Go, Time to start panicking…I mean packing!!

diary of a boho bride

It’s Friday afternoon and today on Diary of a Boho Bride we meet up with Carys for the last time (sad face) as today is her last diary entry before she gets off to Greece for her beautiful wedding in 2 weeks time! It has been a real joy having Carys on the Blog, I remember when I asked for new Boho Brides the first time round, hers was the first application that came in and it was a pleasure to read about her wedding plans. Fast forward and here we are with only two weeks to go before she becomes a Mrs and I couldn’t be happier for her. I wish her and Aaron all the luck in the world and I can’t wait to invite her back to the blog once she is married to share with us her wedding story!

I’ll pass the blog over to Carys……………

So here we are already, my final pre-wedding blog – how did that happen so quickly?!  Two weeks today I shall be waking up in the beautiful harbour village of Fiskardo in Cephalonia next to my handsome husband Aaron – and that thought dear readers is exactly what is keeping me going through these last few chaotic weeks.

Admittedly I always knew that August was going to be hectic with Aaron working away and me hitting the big 30, but I do not think that I was prepared for just how quickly the time would go – has anyone else ever felt as if the last month pre-wedding is in fast forward?!  There does not seem to be enough hours in the day for all the last minute sorting and finalising.  I was not prepared either for just how nervous I would feel as soon as I turned the calendar and there August was staring me in the face – a reminder that I only had 30 days to get everything finished before jumping on the plane to Greece!

30th Birthday

I had thought with the wedding looming that my 30th birthday this week would go unnoticed but my fabulous family, friends and my work colleagues had other ideas!!  I have been truly overwhelmed and amazed at the generosity and kindness of the wonderful people that I have the pleasure of working with over these past two weeks.  I have been so very spoilt with such lovely gifts, cards and well wishes…oh and cake – ooooooh so much cake!!

Picking up the Dress

On Monday I finally got to collect my beautiful Grecian wedding dress and I have to admit having had it altered by two sizes I was truly amazed that I can still fit into it after all the birthday treats I’ve indulged in this week!!  It was really exciting going to collect my dress and bring it home with me knowing that the next time I put it on will be on our very special day.

Buying the Rings

This week we have finally selected and purchased our wedding rings.  Whilst going through our budget three weeks ago I had a nagging feeling that we had forgotten to account for something before I realised – we don’t have any wedding rings!!  Neither of us can wear jewellery in work and I have such a beautiful eye catching engagement ring that we just wanted something very plain and simple for our wedding rings so I’m feeling relieved now that we have them sorted.

Hair and Make Up

I haven’t booked in any hair or make up trials in the weeks leading up to the wedding as I am having those in Greece a few days before the big day.  This is slightly nerve-wracking as at this moment in time I’m still not really sure of how I’m going to look exactly on the day, although I have collected some images of styles that I really like.

Hair and make up needs are always so different in that climate (especially with my lobster reaction to the sun!) that I feel it’s just best to wait until I’m out there to see what I like.  The thing with getting married abroad is that you’re also going on holiday so I’ve had to squeeze in time to get my summer wardrobe sorted as well as all the little things like holiday insurance, currency, flights, car hire and accommodation booked etc.  I’ve tried to help our Greek wedding guests as much as I can with planning their trips by setting up our own wedding website and printing off Cephalonia travel guides for everyone.

The Wedding

Amongst all the stress and the panic I find myself having quiet moments of reflection where I picture our wedding day; the little white washed chapel, the turquoise sea, my handsome groom stood in the Ionian sunshine waiting for me at the top of the hill, and I am truly giddy with excitement and emotion.  I think that in the last few weeks pre-wedding, it is very easy to lose focus of that amongst the barrage of wedding related questions and all the last minute boxes you have to tick and double tick again…at the end of the day however none of that really truly matters.  What is important is that after ten years side by side my soulmate Aaron and I will be married in one of the most special places in the world for us, not because we want to throw a big party or wear some fancy clothes, but because we want to make that life commitment to each other; that no matter what happens in the future, we will always face it together in our own little team as Mr and Mrs.

See you on the other side readers!  Thanks to you all and to Kelly for your wonderful words of advice and support along the way – I’ve loved it!

Love Carys

All the best for your wedding, Carys. You’re going to be such a gorgeous bride!!

I totally found time misbehaved in the most bizarre way in the run up to the wedding. It seems to disappear in big blobs!
