I’m delighted to welcome back my good friend Shelly from Toast of Leeds to the blog today with a gorgeous wedding from this year. As you know Shelly is a regular to the blog and she kicks of her weddings for 2013 in style with this DIY York wedding. It features a super cute couple, some gorgeous DIY details and an amazing red VW Vintage Beetle.
Katie and Christopher were married on 5th April at Bedern Hall, York and Kilnwick Percy Golf Club. ‘We loved the charm of Bedern Hall without it been religious and the food attracted us to KP Golf Club! We looked around quite a few places and as cheesy as it sounds eventually came to thinking- all we wanted to do was get married to each other, eat good food, drink cocktails and dance the night away! We had 90 guests and it took 10 months to plan’
How they met
Met at university in 2004 but got together in 2006 so 7 years. Chris used to walk past my student halls just to see if he could catch a cheeky glimpse on his way to lectures!
The proposal
It was a Christmas eve surprise.
Why did you choose your photographer?
Loved the relaxed and modern pictures and after meeting Shelly we felt very at ease and knew she was who we wanted.
The dress
Maggie Sottero dress, topshop shoes, my mums locket and earrings and that was all I wore jewellery wise
The suit and bridesmaids
Ted Baker Suit and bridesmaids dresses were all from high street shops, topshop, oasis, h+m and river island. All wore different shades of nudes in dresses that worked for their figure.
Theme or colour scheme
Not really, if anything maybe nudes/peaches however Chris’s bright red tie didn’t reflect this, he thought it just looked good with the suit (not anything to do with the fact he is a die hard Man United fan!)
Decoration
Just jam jars of flowers and photo garlands.
Food
BBQ for the mains(best wedding food ever as quoted by about nearly everyone who came!) and bacon/sausage sandwiches at night.
Entertainment
A Beatles tribute band and an I pod playlist
Flowers
Roses and gypsyphillia mostly
Personal /DIY touches
• We did the flowers ourselves with the help of Chris’s parents.
• Cake was made by my mum.
• Decorated jam jars for the table.
• Mini egg, ferrero rocher, lolly sweet trees.
• Photo garlands around the venue
• Table names that were based on different years of mine and Chris’s life(i.e one able was called 1985 and had 2 pictures of when were both babies on it)
• The bunting and cake toppers on the cake.
• Also lined a big wicker basket from my classroom with material and thank you garland for people to put gifts into.
• Heart shaped place names
Special moments
When my dad drove us both in the family beetle between venues and we had 30 minutes to reflect on what had happened and get tipsy on champagne!
Singing ‘Hey Jude’ with all our friends and family(song the band ended on)
Having huge smile the whole day!
Advice
Just relax, remember it’s a day about the two of you and what you want. Don’t give yourself too much to do because when it comes to it all you will care about on the day is that first moment seeing each and being with all your friends and family.
Biggest surprise
The weather! It had snowed a few days previously!
How much time we spent together-people always say ‘you won’t see each other at all!’ Well we proved them wrong!

What a gorgeous wedding. I absolutely love all the DIY elements – something I definitely want at my own wedding. Congratulations Katie and Christopher! xxx
Aww thanks Katie for all the lovely words you said about me. And big kiss to Kelly for featuring the wedding on your amazing blog. Katie and Chris’ wedding was so laid back and super happy. I loved every minute of it – especially when we had a walk round the streets of York stopping traffic on the main road. Ace.
Thank you so much for featuring our wedding Kelly! Hope it gives some good advice to people. It was the most perfect day and had so much fun, every minute of it! xxx
