Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Bank Holiday break! It’s all back to normality today and back to the normal routine. There was no real wedding yesterday due to the bank holiday but I am making up for it today with this fantastic Humanist Wedding. The wedding takes place in Surrey on a beautifully sunny July day and is totally chilled and relaxed. It comes complete with an amazing outdoor ceremony, garden games, loads of balloons, even a swimming pool in the gardens! Thanks to Ben Edward for the images.
Beth and Richard were married on 25th July at Pendell House in Redhil, Surry. We found the gorgeous Pendell House online while searching for venues. ‘We were looking for a place we could rent for a few days and which also had a garden. Pendell House was the best we found. We had 70 guests and it took about a year to plan.’
How they met
Beth was invited to a BBQ at my place by a friend and flatmate. We met a couple more times after that before getting together in late 2009.
The proposal
This took place in our flat. I had planned to cook a meal for Beth and then propose afterwards. As it turned out, Beth was so tired from work that she changed into her ‘onesie’ as soon as she got back and requested to have dinner on her lap so she could relax in front of the TV. Though the appropriate romantic atmosphere had wilted somewhat, I still went ahead and proposed.
How did you choose your photographer?
Our photographer was Ben Edward Photography. We found him online when searching for a photographer. He gave us an excellent quote which was tailored to our requirements and on the day he stayed long past the agreed time to take some extra shots for us. We couldn’t be happier with our photos and his service.
Outfits
Dress was from Pronovias, Moss Bross Hire for the suit and Debenhams for the Bridesmaids outfits.
Teme or colour scheme
Pastel colours.
Flowers and Decoration
British wild flowers in terracotta pots with Bunting, helium balloons, flower windmills and ribbons.
Food
Our wedding took place outdoors, so we hired Flaming Great BBQ Specialists to do our catering.
Entertainment
We set up a range of giant garden games (jenga, space hoppers, giant playing cards and badminton). We also had use of the outdoor pool for those who wanted to take a dip. A music playlist was played outdoors too
Special moments
Having all the family down a day before to get the house ready. The beautiful garden and sunshine. People relaxing. The ceremony. The cake. Small children/babies playing/sleeping on picnic rugs outside. People joining wedding photos in their swimming gear. My granddad wearing a tin-foil hat and pretending to be a conspiracy nut…
Biggest surprise
Although we had planned a relaxed day- with the outdoor setting, garden games and less than formal dress code- we couldn’t believe how relaxed the day actually turned out to be. We would totally recommend an outdoor wedding for this reason. All we needed was some sun, good food and drink and lots of friends and family to have a really enjoyable and memorable day.
Advice
• We were extremely lucky with the weather. It was clear and sunny for the wedding day and luckily it only rained on the day before and after. If a couple is planning an outdoor wedding, we would advise them to have a plan B in case of bad weather.
• Also, a spreadsheet with absolutely everything recorded within is essential for planning. (Guest details and gifts received, suppliers, timings, budget etc.)
• Finally, we had a Humanist celebrant performing the ceremony (we were officially married at a registrar a week before). We can’t recommend this choice enough. We had filled in a large questionnaire beforehand and this made the ceremony very personal and meaningful to us.
