Louise and Simon’s British Summer Fete Wedding By Sam Docker

A Big thank you to Sam Docker who is the man behind today’s wonderful summer fete wedding. This wedding is so full of fun and laughter I just love it. Set on the brides parents farm it has lots of rustic elements mixed with a traditional summer fete theme and a few bits of vintage  thrown in.

‘Amazing day spent with friends and family in a relaxed atmosphere filled with sunshine, love and laughter. We couldn’t of asked for anything better and have lots of special memories we will treasure forever.

The lovely couple are Louise and Simon who were married on 28th July. The ceremony took place at Guildhall, Leicester, with the reception at Poultney Grange Farm (Louise’s parents’ farm)
‘We didn’t want a church wedding but wanted somewhere with some character, the Guildhall in Leicester certainly didn’t disappoint. We had 80 guests in the day and an additional 50 in the evening. The planning started soon after the proposal but really ramped up 6 months prior to the big day. We loved every minute of the planning and wondered what to do with ourselves for a while after.’

How they met
We attended the same school together but it wasn’t until a chance meeting, 10 years later arranged by our friend , and subsequently bridesmaid, that we met again. “There wouldn’t have been a wedding if it wasn’t for Nicola reintroducing us both.”

The proposal
Simon proposed (on one knee) on a sunny Good Friday whilst walking our dog Murphy. Totally surprised me.

Why did you choose your photographer
I (Louise) works with the photographers fiancée (Jemma) who suggested we consider Sam. We fell in love with the wonderful Sam Docker’s work straight away and loved his vintage style which captured the look we were after. We met for an engagement shoot and immediately felt at ease and comfortable around Sam, he’s a lovely and very talented photographer.

The dress
The dress was a lace strapless lace creation from Pronovias. ”I always wanted lace and knew it was the one as soon as I tried it on.” I accessorised with a very small birdcage veil which was bought separately from the headpiece. Veils just didn’t look right on me. After much anguish I decided on the sequin and jewelled bow to wear over the birdcage veil. The hair accessories were the most difficult thing to pick and I actually ended up buying 3 different pieces before deciding.”
I bought the dress and hair accessories from Sposa in Brinklow who were amazing and offer a real friendly service. There’s so many awful wedding shoes out there so chose a simple peep toe pair from the brilliant Rachel Simpson. She has a great selection.

The suit and bridesmaids
Bridesmaids dresses were from the Dessy collection and all looked beautiful. These were bought from our local Brides of Market Harborough who stock the whole collection and have swatches of all the colours which made it really easy to shop.
The mens suits were from Next accessorised with a beautiful Marc Wallace Tie.

Theme or colour scheme
A deliciously and quintessentially British “summer fete” vibe.

Flowers
The flowers were done/arranged by my friends lovely mum. She really captured the county summer theme I wanted, using roses, delphiniums, lavender and other flowers from her own garden. She used bird cages, tea cups and rustic jugs to display them in.

Decoration/ DIY Touches
We decorated the marquee with huge bunting borrowed from a friend which really set the scene for a summer fete. To add the perfect summer’s day the tea cups and rustic jugs collected from various car boot sales and charity shops were placed at the tables.
I spent hours with my bridesmaids creating the favours – Sweets, jam jars and stickers were bought separately from eBay and toppers were cut from any scrap material (or unwanted items of clothes!!) I could find.”

Food
Amazing canapés were served when guests arrived at the farm along with Pimms, then a Roast Beef dinner and summer fruits/meringues for a summer feel. We had an ice cream van and a hog roast in the evening

Entertainment
The brilliant 4tissimo (string quartet) played a mixture of contemporary and classical music at the Guildhall. Evening entertainment was provided by a DJ (Music Mix).
We also had a photo booth area we created with our photographer spending an hour in the evening taking the pictures which proved very entertaining after a few drinks and went down a storm.

Special moments
There’s too many to mention the whole day was so special to us.

Biggest surprise
The sun actually shone on the wettest summers of all time!! We couldn’t believe our luck.

This wedding is unique if nothing else. ha ha. From the fun little photo booth props to the animal masks, and the crazy photography style to the decorations…this ceremony screams UNIQUE! You can almost guaruntee you’ll have a good time with these happy folks (and yes, their happiness comes right through the pictures). Their love shines through and you can tell the guests are very involved. I quite simply love this wedding.
