Sue-Kim and Scott’s Vintage Inspired Sunny Brighton Wedding By Lifeline Photography

Christmas is nearly upon us, only 4 more sleeps to go, which means the blog will be winding down soon for the Christmas break! So today’s sunny Brighton wedding  is the last of the year, so I decided to bring you some Brighton sunshine, courtesy of Lifeline Photography. It’s a beautiful day full of Massive smiles from the bride  lots of gorgeous DIY details as well as a whole heap of vintage inspired loveliness!

‘A most perfect magical day, surrounded by sunlight, laughter & love’

The lovely couple are Sue-Kim and Scott who were married on 18th August 2012. ‘The ceremony was held at Brighton Town Hall, after which the Wedding Party took a short walk to the beach for bubbles and photographs, followed by another short walk to The Latest Music Bar (originally a very grand Victorian snooker hall) on Manchester Street in central Brighton. We had about 60 guests at the ceremony, more guest arrived at the beach and even more at the reception. We had about 150 by the time the buffet came out.’

How they met
We met at another classical Brighton venue; The Hanbury Ballrooms. We have been together 3 years.

The proposal
Scott proposed to me on the evening of my birthday after a lovely Japanese meal out in Brighton with our friends. The restaurant was situated next to the registry office, between the two stood a little wooden podium/ stage. When our party came out of the restaurant, he beckoned me onto the stage with a very serious face. I thought something dreadful had happened. I followed him. Then he stared at me intently. His frame lowered and before I knew it, he was on bended knee. He whipped out a little black box from his pocket and then there was a hush from the line of friends below us. He looked me dead in the eye and proposed. Shrieks came from the line of friends. There was stunned silence from me. I heard a distant ‘Well answer then!’ So I said yes-in total shock.

How did you choose your photographer
We chose Hannah after a recommendation from a friend.

The dress
My dress was designed by myself and Kim Warren from Seven Brides in Brighton. My shoes were vintage from Etsy, 1950s, flown in from Seattle.

The suit and bridesmaids
The suit was hand made from Mitzi Tapp, Seven Brides in Brighton. The bridesmaids outfits came from Viviene of Holloway and Dolly Dagger in Brighton.

Theme
I really didn’t have a specific theme. I knew I wanted a dress that was very similar to styles I had seen in photographs of my aunts wedding snaps. I had always loved that cut ever since childhood.

Food
We had a most delicious buffet. Roast pork, roast beef, fish stew, halumi, salads.

Flowers
I had a small posy of very pale pink tight roses

Entertainment
I really wanted the kids not to get bored, so I hired a couple of lovely Candy Floss ladies with their Candy Floss & Popcorn stand. We also hired a photgraphbooth from a company called Groovybooth in Bath. We had two types of D.J. first set was 50s & 60s classics then later on some groovy tunes for the adults.

Personal touches
I had a very DIY Wedding. I made the tablecloths, the hanging flower garlands, the lavender filled pillow hearts with our names printed on. I made the yards and yards of fabric bunting. I made the confetti cones and tags on the fans. I also made the order of service cards and buffet flags.

Special moments
How well our families came together and got on as if they had known each other forever.
Driving to the venue in a 1967 Plymouth, its V8 engine roaring through Brighton on a super- busy super-hot Saturday afternoon. Seeing my husband’s face, as I walked into the ceremony room. Trying desperately hard to remember the words of the registrar so I could repeat them. Greeting my father after 41 years. Having that moment caught forever by lovely Hannah Webster.

Biggest surprise
My Dad turning up from Florida !

Advice
Book the church/Ceremony hall/ Venue early as guests book their holidays etc early or may have travel issues to sort out. Remember if there are children to cater for them too, so they are not a pain to their parents who also want a good time. Call in favours and friends to help. Be true to your body shape when choosing a frock !
