I have a fabulous wedding for you today which has ben sent into me by Anna Louise Crossley. It’s full of fun and something a bit different, as today’s wedding is set in a cinema. I am finding more and more cinema weddings being submitted to me, specifically the old style cinemas like today’s wedding. They can be a great venue for a couple looking for something a bit different, with the old style cinemas acting as the perfect vintage backdrop if your wedding is themed that way!
the lovely couple are Kathryn and Richard who were married on 11th August. The ceremony was held at Hyde Park Picture House (Edwardian Cinema in Leeds) with the reception at St Chad’s Parish Centre in Headingley. They had 80 guests in the day and 150 in the evening, it took exactly a year to plan. It’s a great day with some wonderful details….I am especial loving the pop corn and the afternoon tea.
‘A quirky and laid back wedding full of fun, food and friendship’
How they met
We met through a group of mutual friends back in Lancashire. I was at university in Leeds and Richard was coincidentally moving to Leeds just after we got together and lived just around the corner
The proposal
Richard took me to Paris for my 30th birthday and then popped the question in a little bar in the Bastille area
How did you choose your photographer?
She chose us! When Anna found out we were getting married at such an unusual venue she asked if we would consider her as a supplier. When we met her and saw the photos there was no going back.
The dress
The dress was by Ian Stuart and the shoes by Benjamin Adams
Richard had my necklace designed and handmade. I have a ring from my grandma with 5 diamonds in. I use this ring and 3 of the diamonds to make my wedding ring. Richard took the remaining two and had a beautiful emerald and diamond necklace made.
The suit and bridesmaids
Richard’s suit was from Next and the Groomsmen’s suit from Marks and Spencer. The hankies and ties were hand made by our friend’s mum!
Theme
Dusky pinks, greys and silvers, creams and ivory’s
Food
A wonderful selection of canapés and then afternoon tea provided by Gil and her team at Niche Nosh. For the evening celebration we had a fish and chip van courtesy of Daleside Fisheries
Entertainment
A couple of friends who are DJs took it in turn to provide the evening music.
Flowers
Seasonal flowers from my local florist Blooms and Baskets in Bramley. I had wanted peonies which were supposed to be out of season but because of the crazy Summer they were still available
Decoration
A group of friends and I made 50 meters of bunting, We had loads of jam jars of coloured flowers all over the hall. We also had lots of paper pom poms
Personal touches
Special moments
Hearing everyone laugh at our video in the ceremony was great. I was also really moved by the two readings from friends in the ceremony and the speeches and toasts from family and friends.
Advice
Don’t worry about the speeches. Everyone there is rooting for you!
And people love to help so when you get offers….. take them!
Biggest surprise
When Richard presented me with a special bib at the wedding breakfast (I have a reputation for spilling food on myself

‘I’d describe my photography style as relaxed and fun; natural shots all the way!! I always make sure I’ve met my couples a few times before their big day to find out what they’re like and how they feel about being photographed. The main thing for me is to work with them and not against them; if they don’t like posing; I won’t make them.’

Love this and their film inspiration! So fun!
I love everything about this. Looks like such a fun day and fun photos too. Makes me wish I’d done something like this. What a cute couple !!!!!
What a location!!! Love it!
Very beautiful, with some lovely moments captured. Scotch eggs and popcorn. YAY!!
I LOVED doing the food for this wedding – we had a lot of fun bouncing ideas around about the hall decoration and food service. Kathryn & Richard were superb clients and, after all the discussions, simply let me get on with it. It was a real pleasure! Lots of love and luck for hte future, guys.
