Matthias and Paulina’s Intimate Wedding for 5

I’m finishing off the week with an intimate wedding from Gateshead in Newcastle. It was sent into me by Katie at Katie Byram Photography . It’s the wedding of Paulina and Matthias Herr who were married on 15th September.

The wedding was planned in 3 weeks and happened a few months before their main wedding which takes place in Poland this year. Paulina and Matthias have moved out there due to Matthias’s work, so they wanted to tie the knot in the UK before they moved out there. They only had 4 guests (including Katie the photographer) as they wanted to keep the Polish wedding as the main focus and didn’t tell any of their guest this wedding was happening. They held the ceremony at Gateshead Register Office which was followed by dinner at The Treehouse, Alnwick Gardens.

The proposal
We have met 2.5 years ago through a joint friend.
The proposal came unexpectedly for me on our 1st anniversary during holidays in Turkey. We went out to eat in the most beautiful restaurant and there he popped the question.

The venue
We decided to change our lives and upon my husband´s job offer move from Newcastle upon Tyne to Bern Switzerland. We were not planning to get married till August 2012, but since we were changing the country we decided to change our marital status as well. We wanted something small and low key, so decided to have a short ceremony at the register office followed by a slap up dinner at the fabulous Treehouse restaurant (Yes it’s an actual wooden treehouse!)

Food
3 course meal at Alnwick Garden treehouse, which has amazing food. We just chose whatever we fancied from the menu.

Flowers
I ordered a bouquet from the internet which came on the morning of the wedding!

Special moments
Many hours of photography with Katie Byram, as we had a large gap between the ceremony and reception, we decided to have a photoshoot around some of the great places on Newcastle Quayside, and then at the Alnwick Gardens. We really enjoyed the photos as it gave us chance to walk around and relax. One of the highlights was getting a photo on the running track which was being built for the city games (part of the Great North Run weekend), the builders looked rather surprised at us quickly grabbing the shot!

Planning advice
Our wedding was a bit different, owing to the fact we will have a church wedding in August 2012, so we decided just to relax and do the day how we wanted it.

Biggest surprise
Everything went as planned. The big surprise was that really only the four guests attending knew about the UK wedding, as we are getting married in Poland and want that to be equally important… it is fantastic that we will have two very different and memorable wedding days.

I’m based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, covering the whole of the UK. My style is mostly reportage, candid photography, I photograph in a relaxed style and some of my images can be described as slightly quirky.
