Happy New Year from Boho – My aspirations for 2012 (A personal Post)

Welcome back to the Blog and a HUGE Happy New year to you all! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas break, and that you are all charged up for 2012! If you are newly engaged and finding the blog for the first time then congratulations and welcome! I hope my little space of wedding fabulousness can help you on your wedding planning journey!
If you are a regular to the blog then you thank you for baring with me over the Christmas period, I haven’t been blogging at all and decided that as 2011 was such a full on year I needed to take a bit of time off over Christmas to relax, spend some time with my friends and family and come back this year fully charged and ready to hit 2012 with a bang!

But I’m back now and ready to fill your days with lost of gorgeous weddings, styled shoots, wedding ideas, planning advice, DIY ideas, supplier info, discussions and anything else wedding related!

2011 was very kind to me I got to take Boho Weddings, both the planning side of things and the blog to a whole new level, I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved and so very very thankful to everyone who helped me get to where I am.

I thought I would share with you the top 5 most viewed posts of 2011, surprisingly there is only 1 real wedding in the top 5, the others are ideas and inspirations posts. (image credits can be found on each post)

1) Alternative Wedding Guest Book Ideas

2) Alternative Table Numbers Ideas

3) A Rock Themed Castle Wedding

4) How to do Bridal Make Up – Alluring Eyes

5) Place names that double up as favours

2012 I’m sure will be full of amazing things as well, but the Christmas break has given me time to reflect and to take stock of every aspect of my life and to put a whole load of things into perspective. I have a whole heap of hopes and aspirations for Boho Weddings, new projects, new ideas…….most of which I will keep to myself for the time being, things that I’m sure in time will happen, but I have to say that 2012 is also going to include a lot more personal goals.

For those of you who are reading this who are self-employed you will know that running a small business is hard work, instead of a 40 hour week we work an 80 hour week at best, sometimes 100 hours, many evenings spent working into the small hours trying to make deadlines and making sure that our brides are happy at all times. This is fine and something that is part and parcel of working for yourself BUT after a while takes it takes a toll on your personal life. So this year I plan to try my hardest at working on this and getting a better work life balance!

This year brings many personal landmarks, I turn 40, my Husband Nik turns 30, my sister in law gets married, as do many of mine and Nik’s friends and the world and his wife seem to be expecting babies!

Here are my hopes and aspirations for 2012

  • Keep creating fabulous weddings for my brides and keep supplying them with first class service.
  • Keep the Blog up to date, and forward thinking in it’s outlook
  • Keep building up both the planning and the blog so they make a good living for myself and offers me the flexibility I started it for
  • Keep at least one evening in the week free to spend with Nik, no computer, no work!
  • Finish work at a decent time, and I mean 9pm/10pm instead of 1am/2am this means me working smarter and managing my time better, this means more relaxation and more time with Nik.
  • Make more effort to see my friends, and make more time to call them
  • Call my mum! I can go weeks without talking to her, which just isn’t good enough!
  • Finish my office, I still have lost of DIY projects to get done
  • Plan the perfect birthday party for mine and Nik’s 30th and 40th, the venue is booked for the 3rd June, no I just need to get the other stuff sorted!
  • Try my best at a hobby, this may be over ambitious but I’d love to learn how to take a decent picture, I’d also like to get my sewing machine out and start to design and dress make again, I used to do this for a living and I do miss it, especially when I can’t find anything in the shops!

But I guess the main thing I want to achieve this year is to start a family. It’s not something I have talked before as I don’t feel my wedding blog is the suitable place to discuss such things BUT Nik and I have been trying for a baby for quite some time now and so far we haven’t been blessed. I’m hoping that by tacking things a bit more easily at work, and by putting it out there and telling the universe that it may just happen for us. We have been married for 2 and half years now and I’m 40 in 2 months time, so my main wish is that this happens for us sooner rather than later!

I don’t want any of my brides to worry that I won’t be able to do my job properly, if/when it happens. I want to reassure them that they will be looked after with my 100% attention…….but I just think that instead of hiding the fact from people and telling the world outright that a bit more positive thinking may get us the baby we wish for!

Nik will make an amazing father, he is an absolute natural!…me on the other hand I’m not quite so confident about, but at the moment I’m just concentrating on getting pregnant! This year brings lots of hospital visits to see our consultant and me looking after myself a lot more and drinking a lot less!
So fingers crossed it will happen.

In the mean time I will be working on making Boho Weddings bigger and better, I have lots of ideas and lots of people I want to work with this year. The Blog will keep on developing and I have lots of new services to add to the wedding planning side fo things. All of which I will be sharing with you in the next few months.

So that’s me……….I’d love to know what your wishes are for 2012? Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts, your aspirations and your goals for the year!

Big Boho Love
Kelly xx

    Kelly,

You’ll be a great mum as long as they don’t keep blowing out the candles!

Admitting you want and are trying for a baby is the first step to taking some pressure off as when you’re so career focused it can feel like you’re letting people down (even when you’re not)..

Everyone is different and there’s no rules of when it will happen or magic way of making it (besides the obvious!) but I wish you all the luck as you truly deserve it!

    Lots of love

Thanks so much for all your work, Kelly! I know how desperately hard it is to get a work/homelife balance. With a 9-5 job, you leave a stack of papers on your desk and don’t see them for 12 hours. When you work for yourself, you see them staring at you – calling your name in the wee hours. I have been known to get up in the middle of the night because the thought of the papers is keeping me awake. I swear, I should take myself to tribunal for unfair working conditions.

I will put loads of happy baby vibes out there for you! My husband and I made the decision this year that we are no longer going to consider trying to have a baby. It was rough to decide – but we already have one beautiful little boy. So I will take all my baby broody vibes and pass them your way!

All the best in the new year……

    Happy New Year Kelly!

I really hope you get what you wish for this year. Everyone always says relax and it will happen which is so easy to say but very difficult to do in practice when you want it so much.

Sending lots of baby vibes your way xxx

Gosh Kelly, I’ve been thinking about you since I read your blog this morning, you really touched a nerve, as your’s is the first I’ve read this year after taking a break from the whole twitter/blog thing. Running your own business does take over your life and sometines at the expense of your family, thats what I’ve realised and will not let happen again. Good for you for being so honest, you way sound like you’ve been working far too hard! I’ll be sending lots of baby vibes to you and now I’m back twittering will be lookin out for ya, loads a love and fingers and toes crossed for 2012. Helx

Keep up the good work with growing Boho Kelly, and hopefully 2012 will be the year I get to meet you properly rather than fleetingly.

I hope that you are blessed with Baby News in 2012. I know that its not easy. Ive had a fair few friends who struggle to fall pregnant naturally, and then one day it just happens. I also have friends who’ve had to go the IVF route,

2012 is a big thing for me getting work/life balance…RIGHT! :) Its hard though.

I’m pretty sure you’d be a great Mummy anyway! X

Well written Kelly and it’s nice that you’ve been so open. I know one day I will want to start a family but the thought scares me stiff right now. I do have the worry of getting the point where I want to start a family and I won’t be able to. That’s the point when my Mum said that you’re better taking a deep breath and letting nature take over instead of stressing out! I also agree with the work life balance. When I worked for someone else I did really well and made sure I managed my time so I walked out as near to 5 as I could. Yet here I am, on my laptop at 7:30 doing little bits before I clock off. I’d hate to work out my hours per week! I do however try to spend time with my Husband, I know he appreciates it when I can just switch off for a day-normally a Sunday! It’s too tempting to just nip on my phone and check emails though, I must stop that in 2012!

I wish you all the best for 2012, I have a feeling it’s going to be a great one for all us self employed and a great one for you xx

I love to read your blog posts and find today’s very inspirational. I often think about my work/life balance and its nice to see that i’m not the only one throwing myself into work and tend to neglect the other important aspects of my life.

Wishing you lots of luck for this year, and hope that a little bundle of love comes your way soon. :) Krissie x

Beautifully expressed, Kelly. I too have similar ambitions for 2012. Both married 2 years, both passionate about weddings, I often think how ironic it is to be spending most evenings engrossed in weddings and marriage except our own! Getting the work life balance is definitely a priority, including baby Bespoken Dreams (there, I said it)! A baby Boho will delight your brides, including your Twitterati followers! Here’s to following your dreams in 2012 xxx

Hi Kelly, What a fantastic isightful and inspirational blog post. Its great that you have your ambitions laid out in front of you and it certainly gives you something to aim for and occasionally steer you back on track throughout the year. I too am hoping to build on the successes of 2011 and make 2012 even better and as you, i also have an unfinished DIY project, the build of my office and studio. My big ambition id to have it finished by the spring :-/

Hey Kelly, good luck with all your aspirations, you really do work hard and deserve them all. A lot of my friends were in the same boat trying to get pregnant and the moment they chilled out they conceived. Probably not as easy as that but I am crossing my fingers for you. Like you 2012 is a big year for me too. Going full time is scary but am determined to make it work. xxx
