Well I’m not to sure how it got to Friday so quickly but the end of the week is here already! Today I have an organic and eco friendly wedding from Stockholm. It’s brought to you by Swedish Photographer Annelie Johansson  who tells us a bit more about herself and her photography at the end of the post.

The couple are Lan and Joakim were married on 26th March 2011 in Rosendal’s Garden , Stockholm, with 50 guests. They met at High school and have been together 7 years, the wedding took 6 months to plan.

Lan and Joakim describe their wedding as ‘The wedding day was personalized by a mixture of Chinese and Swedish traditions and was very intimate with only our closest family and friends attending. We also tried to do everything related to the wedding as un-materialistic and planet-friendly as we normally do in our everyday life. ‘

The proposal
The proposal came late…, in fact, a few months after we have booked the location, ordered wedding dress, written guest lists etc.

The venue
Rosendal serves only organic and biodynamic food, a criterion that was important for us. Most of the food comes from either Rosendal’s own production or from areas nearby. Rosendal is also very special and beautiful, as the entire place is a greenhouse. In daylight, you have a panoramic garden view and after nightfall, you have the feeling of stars watching over you. Rosendal is also well located on the island Djurgården in Stockholm, only 10 minutes away by trams from central Stockholm. Most of our guests arrived by public transport.

The Dress
Dress was tailor fitted and made by silk produced with little chemical impact. The red Chinese-style shoes were from Taiwan. Hair decoration is a cheongsam button. Bracelet was bought in a local artist’s shop in Stockholm. The rings were made by titanium. The material titanium was chosen for its beauty, hardness and its minimal environmental impact (in comparison with traditional materials such as gold and diamonds). No other accessories were worn. The coiffure was a simple French twist, well elaborated by an eco-friendly hair dresser in Stockholm.

The suit
Suit was made of organic cotton and also tailor-fitted to get the Chinese touch

Theme
Red, as it is the traditional Chinese wedding colour.

Food
Buffet of organic and biodynamic food. Rosendal’s own homemade bread and homemade apple juice. Organic juices, sodas and other non-alcoholics.

Entertainment
Some of our friends are gorgeous singers, dancers and entertainers. Our toast master is a hobby stand-up comic. In the wedding invitation, we were also implying that we preferred contribution to a memorable evening for everyone, rather than materialistic gifts. So the entertainment contributions by guests were really great surprises during the evening.

Flowers
Red crowfoot buttercup with very young birch leaves. It was the flower of the season and locally grown.

Decoration
Again red crowfoot buttercup with very young birch leaves, but also apple branches and other plants from the garden.

Personal touches
We hand-made all invitation cards and leaflets ourselves with paper with Japanese red cherry patterns. We also wrote statements about our guests in the leaflets.

Special moments
There were quite many highlights and memorable moments. The marriage ceremony, songs our friends invented and some wonderful speeches.

Planning advice
Don’t feel restricted by norms. Make the wedding day with your personal touch. Also, if you make sure the guests enjoy it just as much as you do, you probably enjoy it even more. It was also important for us that the wedding was as planet-friendly as possible, as we wanted the memories from our big day to be as untainted as possible.

Biggest surprise
Every entertainment contribution was a surprise. The biggest surprise would be a friend who played really extraordinary accordion. We were not aware that he played the accordion at all, so it was a big and happy surprise.
