Real Weddings: a very cold and snowy engagement shoot

Today I’m pleased to be featuring my good friend Shelly from Toast of Leeds I have featured Shelly a number of times on the blog but my favourite shoot is the one I did with her myself, our 1960s Wedding Shoot.Shelly is a great photographer and brings with her a vintage/grungy style to her work.
Today’s shoot is of Rosa and David and takes place in Saltaire, it took place when we had all that amazing (yet highly inconvenient) snow last year.

Shelly tells me about the shoot:
‘I love a vintage shoot. Especially when it snows. And, if you’re surrounded by gorgeous architecture and a lovely boat or two, well things just couldn’t get any better.
This is Rosa and David who decided that the beautiful Unesco world heritage site of Saltaire was the perfect backdrop for their pre-wedding shoot – I couldn’t agree more. We tramped down to the railway station, we ‘borrowed’ a vintage bike from outside Salts Mill, and we braved the ice down by the River Aire.
Poor old David was very brave (especially considering he’s one of the many folk who hate having a camera pointed at them) as I made him strip off his gloves and stand around in the freezing temperature, but hopefully it was all worth it.
And once we’d finished the tour of some of Saltaire’s finest landmarks, including the Grade 1 listed Saltaire United Reform Church, the Victoria Hall and of course, Salts Mill itself (home to lots of lovely David Hockney art), we stopped for a nice warm cuppa to get the circulation going again.
Rosa and David actually live in Staines but they will be getting married in Yorkshire later in the year at the very grand City Hall in Bradford. I can’t wait and after talking to Rosa about her wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses, I’m convinced it’s going to be fabulous.’
