Real Weddings: The Bride Wears Black

Posted by: boho on: April 23, 2010

I love anything that is different in the wedding world so when I was sent this wedding by Paul Atherton I was beside myself with excitement!! This Druid Ceremony is set high on a hill top and is just amazing.

Paul tells me the Druid ceremony took place between Gemma Hatch and Chris Connolly on June 21st – midsummer day at Heaton House Farm near Leek in Staffordshire, with the ceremony at the top of Bosley Cloud in Staffordshire.

I love Gemma’s dress, she looks amazing in her black corset and skirt…..stunning! I also love her bridal bouquet with the black feathers.

Thanks so much to Paul for sending this in, I just love it!!

Paul is based in Cheshire but travels extensively throughout the uk and occasionally in Europe. He works by documenting the day with the minimum amount of intrusion.

Wedding dresses up until the 19th Century weren’t specifically white. Most dresses were girls ‘best’ dresses and as such came in a variety of colours. In the UK it was only when Queen Victoria wore white silk for her wedding to Albert that the colour was taken up as a symbol of purity. In other countries such as Spain, a black dress signifies that a bride will remain faithful to her husband until she dies.
(It doesn’t say what the groom has to do to show the same thing however!)
More recently the trend has been to combine an elegant evening reception with black wedding dresses & formal suits to cut down on costs.
The beauty of adding a colour theme is that you can carry it through to every element of your day, from the wedding cars through to stationery
